Free Music is Back!

The 2015 summer concerts feature a mix of new artists and returning crowd-pleasers

Classic rock Grammy winners, Soul Asylum

Warmer temperatures are returning to the area, and that means one thing: It's almost time for free summer concerts at the Levitt Pavilion!

This year's Green Mountain Energy 2015 Summer Concert Season kicks off May 22 with the fourth annual Downtown Arlington Center Stage Music Festival -- three evenings of music and food in the heart of Downtown Arlington. Austin's Hayes Carll kicks things off as the headliner at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, May 22, with wildly literate songs about life. On Saturday, May 23, it's classic rock with Soul Asylum, 1994 Grammy Award winners for Best Rock Song with their hit, Runaway Train. Their concert is at 8:30 p.m. Lone Star country/rock singer/songwriter Charlie Robison wraps up the festival at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, May 24.

After festival weekend, the Levitt Pavilion begins its regular Summer Concert Series concert times of 8 p.m. Thursday through Sunday until July 5, when concerts begin at 8:30 p.m. The Levitt Children's Concert Series adds to the mix on Wednesdays beginning June 10 with the master of movement and Emmy- and Parents' Choice-award-winner Aaron Nigel Smith. Children's concerts are at 9:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays through July 8.

The Levitt's 2015 summer line-up includes several hot new artists making their first appearance at the Arlington pavilion. These include:

  • The Suffers on May 28 -- American soul meets rock 'n' roll
  • The Dirty River Boys on May 30 -- a hard-scrabble package of folk, rock and bluegrass
  • The Jones Family Singers on June 11 -- a spiritually uplifting gospel workout
  • Rich Robinson on June 13 -- roots rock from the founder of The Black Crowes
  • Gedeon Luke & the People on June 21 -- vibrant, funky, passionate soul
  • The Royal Southern Brotherhood on June 25 -- R&B/rock artists with an impressive pedigree of family names like Neville and Vaughan
  • The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra on June 28 -- a big band legend lives on
  • BettySoo and Matt the Electrician on July 9 -- singer/songwriters from Austin with folksy, quirky music

Summer also includes the return of many Levitt crowd favorites, like Spoonfed Tribe, The Quebe Sisters Band, Trout Fishing in America, Los Texmaniacs, Sara Hickman, The O's and Ray Wylie Hubbard. The Levitt is also bringing back the unique MarchFourth! nontraditional marching band with stilt-walkers and break-through Indie artist, Sarah Jaffe.

For the second year, the Levitt Pavilions National Tour will go through Arlington. This time, the artists are Black Violin, critically acclaimed violinists with classical meets hip-hop strings artistry. Their concert is at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 20.

This year's hometown Independence Day celebration, Light Up Arlington!, will feature the music of local singer/songwriter, Brad Thompson at 7:30 p.m. followed by Fab Four favorites with a bluegrass twist from Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Bluegrass Band at 8:45 p.m. The City of Arlington's fireworks will light up the summer sky over the Levitt stage at 9:45 p.m.

All of Levitt Pavilion Arlington's concerts are free. Audiences are seated on an open lawn in blankets or lawn chairs. Picnics, snacks, and coolers with beverages, including beer and wine are welcome, but no glass containers are allowed. In addition, J. Gilligan's provides burgers, veggie burgers, chicken, quesadillas and their famous Irish nachos for purchase as well as beer and wine, and Mad Mike's offers snow cones, ice cream, kettle corn, hot dogs and soft drinks for purchase. Free parking is available in parking lots all around the pavilion.

The summer concert calendar, a printable calendar and information about the artists, parking and what to bring on your visit are all available on the Levitt's website. In addition, weekly updates during concert season are available by calling the 24-hour information line at 817.543.4301.
