KTS 20th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
On October 23, families, friends, staff and alumni joined together to celebrate the twentieth school year at The Katherine Thomas School and the tenth school year for the KTS high school. Keynote Speaker, Ron Suskind, father of KTS Alumnus Owen Suskind and Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Life, Animated: A Story of Sidekicks, Heroes and Autism, shared their family's story. The event was held at Gaithersburg Marriott and many old friends were on hand to share in the celebration. TLC's Executive Director Dr. Pat Ritter and KTHS Director Rhona Schwartz shared their own stories about opening the school.

KTS HOSTS VISITORS FROM RUSSIA
The Katherine Thomas School hosted a group of visitors from Russia who are affiliated with Firefly. Firefly is an organization that trains volunteers and professionals in Russia to serve the needs of children on the autism spectrum.
The group of nine professionals included a pediatric neurologist and a filmmaker. Cathy Burgess, Lower and Middle School Director at The Katherine Thomas School shared a tour and answered questions about our programs. One of the group's interests was learning about early intervention programs, including the KTS preschool, which uses a developmental model for 4- and 5-year olds with complex
and varied learning difficulties.
After touring KTS, the group visited the TLC facility on Gaither Road for a talk about our services as well as a tour. They were especially impressed with our expansive Occupational Therapy gyms! We enjoyed the opportunity to discuss philosophy and programs with our colleagues from Russia!
