WELCOME!

We are very excited to share news about the great things happening here at Outcomes. Our passionate team has achieved numerous successes in recent weeks, and there is a lot going on!

Recently, Business Advisory Board member Dean Porter from Alliance, Inc. presented to Outcomes jobseekers on interviewing skills. He was impressed by the quality of the participants, and returned the following week to interview five candidates for his job openings. He had trouble choosing from Outcomes' great candidates, so he hired all five! This is a great example of how the Business Advisory Board can help Outcomes make employment happen!

Two days later, Job Placement Specialist Marta Bohrequez returned from a meeting with a new contact at Shoppers Food Warehouse to announce three more job placements.
Our total of eight job placements in one week is a new record for Outcomes!

We are looking forward to sharing continued great news!  As always, please let us know if you have any input or suggestions for this newsletter.  Thank you!

Outcomes Receives Transition Resource Grant

TLC's Outcomes has been awarded a grant from the HSC Foundation to create a Web resource for individuals with disabilities and their families who are in transition from school to work.  Our plan is to create a video with consumers and their parents speaking about their transition challenges and issues, publish it on a resource website, and encourage others to create and post their own stories using YouTube.

Our first step is to host two focus groups with consumers and parents talking about the issues they have or are currently addressing in transition.  This will help us fine tune the topics that will be covered in the video. The sessions will take place in early March at an accessible location in the Silver Spring area. If you are interested in taking part in a focus group/filming, please contact Nick Heynen

We will be partnering on this project with GMMB, a Washington, DC communications firm that employees one of our consumers. GMMB has worked with big projects such as President Obama's campaigns!.  This is an exciting project that will tap the power of technology and social media to help people get through this critical process.  We are excited and are looking forward to working with GMMB to bring this to fruition.  Stay tuned... more to come!

TLC's New Business Advisory Board

The Treatment and Learning Centers recently launched a Business Advisory Board (BAB) to provide input and assistance to Outcomes in our mission to provide employment opportunities for the consumers we serve. The BAB is a collection of leaders in the business community who share our mission, Outcomes can look to the BAB for insight from the business community, assistance in marketing and introductions to potential employers. TLC also receives support from a Medical Advisory Board and a Consumer Advisory Board in addition to our Board of Trustees.

We are looking for people from the business community that would like to help Outcomes create opportunities for individuals with disabilities and assist us with helping our participants become successful. Please contact Randy Shannon if you would like more information on the BAB and membership.
