Readings [We are using Track 2 of the indicated readings.]
Grant us, Lord, not to be anxious about earthly things, but to love things heavenly; and even now, while we are placed among things that are passing away, to hold fast to those that shall endure; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Reflection
Glance at the sun. See the moon and the stars. Gaze at the beauty of earth's greenings. Now, think. What delight God gives to humankind with all these things. . . . All nature is at the disposal of humankind. We are to work with it. For without we cannot survive.
Hildegard of Bingen, whose feast day was celebrated by the church yesterday, September 17.
The Clearwater Sail is TONIGHT! (The sail is sold out)
Those who have purchased tickets must be on board the Clearwater by 6:25pm.
We are departing from the Piermont pier. Unless you have a parking permit from Piermont - and you have to be a resident of Piermont to get one, you cannot park at the end of the pier. You can drop passengers off - drop off a cooler or a bag that you might have, etc. But, you'll not be able to park at the end of the pier. Along the west end of the pier, there is a small parking lot across from the ballfield that non permit holders can use - on Ferry road. A much larger public lot is located at the intersection of Gair Street and Paradise/Pier Road about 50 yards further west. (Map
The temperature should be in the low to mid-80's when we shove off and in the mid-70's when we dock at the end of the trip. But, keep in mind it will be breezy - we hope and so you may need a light sweater or jacket just in case. We are bringing bottled water - enough for everyone to get one bottle, some light snacks- Pat is baking some cookies so there will be something to nibble on. You can bring your own food, beverages and wine or beer - but remember no glassware and you will need to bring your refuse off the boat and all the way back to the parking lot for disposal.
Any of you who have sailed on the Clearwater know that a part of the experience can be helping the crew sail the ship. You can help raise the sails, steer the boat, listen and join in the crew's songs or engage in a conversation about the ecology of the river and the Piermont Marsh, and that can be fun. Or, if you want you can just to sit on deck, enjoy the view and the wind in your face and relax.
See you onboard.
Pat and Jeff
PS - given the popularity of this event, we are planning on doing a cruise on the Clearwater next year. Watch for announcements sometime in the spring.

Sometimes you look at an empty valley like this, and suddenly the air is filled with snow. That is the way the whole world happened- there was nothing, and then...
But maybe some time you will look out and even the mountains are gone, the world become nothing again. What can a person do to help bring back the world?
We have to watch it and then look at each other. Together we hold it close and carefully save it, like a bubble that can disappear if we don't watch out.
Please think about this as you go on. Breath on the world. Hold out your hands to it. When mornings and evenings roll along, watch how they open and close, how they invite you to the long party that your life is.
