COLLECT OF THE DAY
O God, from whom all good proceeds: Grant that by your inspiration we may think those things that are right, and by your merciful guiding may do them; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Reflection

...our sacred text starts with Genesis, the beginning - and ends with Revelation, the ending, and in the middle is the acts of the apostles which is unfinished - that is us - we are in the middle of this story that is still being written and that is where our hope lays. And to be clear, when I say that after Pentecost there was more, in all fairness you should know that doesn't means a happily ever after ending. Happily ever after is optimism gone astray. So you should know, in the story of Acts, after they received The Spirit...things didn't work out great for them. There were imprisonments and shipwrecks and persecution - I mean nothing that sounds like a charmed life - nothing that any sane person would HOPE for. And yet they had something- which ran deep. They had hope. These early disciples did not judge their lives and their relationship with God according to how awesome things looked in the moment. They knew that no matter what, the story wasn't finished. That's real faith and real hope.

Parting Thought
Any Morning

Just lying on the couch and being happy.
Only humming a little, the quiet sound in the head.
Trouble is busy elsewhere at the moment, it has
so much to do in the world.

People who might judge are mostly asleep; they can't
monitor you all the time, and sometimes they forget.
When dawn flows over the hedge you can
get up and act busy.

Little corners like this, pieces of Heaven
left lying around, can be picked up and saved.
People won't even see that you have them,
they are so light and easy to hide.

Later in the day you can act like the others.
You can shake your head. You can frown.
