Fourteenth Sunday After Pentecost September 14, 2014
Collect of the Day

O God, because without you we are not able to please you mercifully grant that your Holy Spirit may in all things direct and rule our hearts; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

SAVE THE DATE For another memorable FUN(d) RAISER!

Saturday, October 4     Doors open at 5:30pm

El Camino De Santiago - the Way of St. James - is an ancient pilgrimage route that ends at the shrine of the apostle St. James the Great in the Cathedral de Compostela in Galicia, Spain. In 2010, Emilio Estevez wrote, produced, and directed The Way, a movie that tells the story of an American physician who walks El Camino de Santiago himself.   On October 4, we'll screen The Way and members of the Grace community who have walked portions of The Way will share their stories and reflections while we all enjoy a variety of tapas and pintxos - and of course a glass of sangria.  Tickets ($12) will go on sale at the Ministry Fair of Sunday, September 14. Profits from this FUN(d) RAISER will be split between Grace Church and Christ Episcopal Church Tarrytown to support their ministry working with undocumented minors from Central America who are residing at Abbot House  in Irvington, NY (see more below). If you are interested; e-mail us at jffmcdwll@hotmail.com or give us a call at 845 371 3205.

"I was a stranger and you welcomed me."

Abbot House, a facility in Westchester, is now providing transitional housing for unaccompanied children who have arrived in the U.S. from Central America. Within the next month it is expected that they will be housing as many as 30 young boys (14-17 years old) and 20 mothers and babies. Christ Church in Tarrytown has initiated a program to visit the children, and they can use donations of  backpacks and art supplies as well as money to purchase sneakers and cleats (the boys are huge soccer fans.) We have also been invited to join volunteers in visiting the children on Sunday afternoons. If you'd like more information or would like to be part of a group visiting the children, please contact the office.

There is a box available  for donated items at the church entrance. If you'd like to make a financial donation, please make check out to Grace Church with Abbott House on the memo line.

Thank You!

CORNERSTONE CAMPAIGN

Watch for Cornerstone Committee members at coffee hours and at the Ministry Fair on September 14, where they'll have information about the campaign and answer your questions. Our life together at Grace is a life of seeking, witness, reconciliation and community. Keeping our spiritual home in good working order is imperative and part of being good stewards of our beautiful space. We are grateful to you all for your support of our beloved community at Grace Church.

We hope that you will make a contribution to our building fund -  The Cornerstone Campaign - this summer --- and thanks to a number of generous donors,  we have made a very promising start.

Parting Thought
The Place Where We Are Right
by Yehuda Amichai

From the place where we are right
Flowers will never grow
In the spring.
The place where we are right
Is hard and trampled
Like a yard.
But doubts and loves
Dig up the world
Like a mole, a plow.
And a whisper will be heard in the place
Where the ruined
House once stood.
