Lord of all power and might, the author and giver of all good things: Graft in our hearts the love of your Name; increase in us true religion; nourish us with all goodness; and bring forth in us the fruit of good works; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen.

Even, and perhaps especially, in the bleakest times, we can still discover and awaken beauty; these are precisely the times when we need it most. Nowhere else can we find the joy that beauty brings. Joy is not simply the fruit of circumstance; we can choose to be joyous independent of what is happening around us. The joyful heart sees and reads the world with a sense of freedom and graciousness. Despite all the difficult turns on the road, it never loses sight of the world as a gift. St Augustine said: 'The soul is weighed in the balance by what delights her. Delight or enjoyment sets the soul in her ordered place. Where the delight is, there is the treasure.' Perhaps this is why there is such delight in beauty. In the midst of fragmentation and distress beauty draws the soul into an experience where an elegant order prevails. This brings a lovely tranquillity and satisfies the desire of the soul. When the Beautiful continues on its way, the soul has been strengthened by a delight that will further assist her in transfiguring struggle.

CORNERSTONE CAMPAIGN About 30 parishioners gathered at the rectory last week to learn more about Grace Church's Cornerstone Campaign. With approximately $90,000 to be raised for Phase I repairs, thanks to the generosity of our fellow parishioners since the campaign began, we are over halfway there. Watch for Cornerstone Committee members at coffee hours and at the Ministry Fair on September 14, where they'll have information about the campaign and answer your questions. Our life together at Grace is a life of seeking, witness, reconciliation and community. Keeping our spiritual home in good working order is imperative and part of being good stewards of our beautiful space. We are grateful to you all for your support of our beloved community at Grace Church. We hope that you will make a contribution to our building fund - The Cornerstone Campaign - this summer --- and thanks to a number of generous donors, we have made a very promising start. FOR MORE |

On September 21 people from all over the country will converge in Manhattan for the "largest climate march in history," planned for two days before world leaders attend a major Climate Summit at the United Nations headquarters here in NYC.
