Collect of the Day

Grant, O merciful God, that your Church, being gathered together in unity by your Holy Spirit, may show forth your power among all peoples, to the glory of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Reflection

"Forgiving and being reconciled to our enemies or our loved ones are not about pretending that things are other than they are. It is not about patting one another on the back and turning a blind eye to the wrong. True reconciliation exposes the awfulness, the abuse, the hurt, the truth. It could even sometimes make things worse. It is a risky undertaking but in the end it is worthwhile, because in the end only an honest confrontation with reality can bring real healing. Superficial reconciliation can bring only superficial healing."

CORNERSTONE CAMPAIGN

Our life together at Grace is a life of seeking, witness, reconciliation, and community. Our building keeps us dry in the rains and warm in the winter storms. It stands as a beacon of welcome and hope for our community.

We hope that you will make a contribution to our building fund -  The Cornerstone Campaign - this summer --- and thanks to a number of generous donors,  we have made a promising start.  The fund will allow us to care for our stones, the side and front doors, the roof, as well as other projects essential in the care of our church home.

HAVE YOU THOUGHT OF JOINING OUR TEAM OF CHURCH SCHOOL TEACHERS?

Each year new parents and other volunteers join our team of church school teachers. No previous teaching experience is needed, and you don't need to have kids in the church school. Each grade level is assigned three teachers to enable a rotation that requires teaching no more than every third week from 10:15 to 11:00 on Sundays.  We're working on finding a fun and easy new curriculum to make the teaching experience better than ever. This year we are in greatest need of teachers to help with our Junior Youth Group (middle school age).

There will be a church school teachers' meeting on Saturday, September 13 at 9am where you will learn all that you need to know. Church school registration is Sunday, September 14,  and church school starts Sunday, September 21 following the 9:30 service.

You can also register your child(ren) online ahead of time.  Click here to go to our online registration form.

Please e-mail or  Lainie Murrell  if you'd like to know more!

Parting Thought

Do not go gentle into that good night

Dylan Thomas, 1914 - 1953

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
