Ninth Sunday After Pentecost - August 10, 2014
|
Collect of the Day
Grant to us, Lord, we pray, the spirit to think and do always those things that are right, that we, who cannot exist without you, may by you be enabled to live according to your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

HAVE YOU THOUGHT OF JOINING OUR TEAM OF CHURCH SCHOOL TEACHERS?
Each year new parents and other volunteers join our team of church school teachers. No previous teaching experience is needed, and you don't need to have kids in the church school. Each grade level is assigned three teachers to enable a rotation that requires teaching no more than every third week from 10:15 to 11:00 on Sundays. We're working on finding a fun and easy new curriculum to make the teaching experience better than ever. We need more volunteers for next year to keep up these numbers. Please contact Lainie Murrell at 825-6236 or gracekidsnyack@gmail.com if you are interested in learning more about becoming a church school teacher. Thank you!

CORNER STONE CAMPAIGN
"The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone;
this was the Lord's doing, and it is amazing in our eyes" Mark 12:10
You may have noticed the scaffolding around our beautiful church and the attention we are giving to the stonework. Stones are found throughout the Bible, from the stones that became the tablets for the commandments, to precious stones and jewels, to the lowly stone Mary Magdalene was thought to carry in her shoe. The ancient people of our world moved giant stones to create monuments of mystery and awe. Our stones here at Grace Church are granite and native sandstone as strong as any and as vulnerable to time... READ MORE

"...I was a stranger and you welcomed me."
Matthew 25:35
""I was a stranger and you welcomed me." Abbot House, a facility in Westchester, has recently begun a program to provide transitional housing for unaccompanied children who have arrived in the U.S. from Central America. They are currently housing 14 young boys from 14 to 17 years old in the program, but within the next month it is expected that their numbers will swell to a total of 50, with 30 young boys and 20 mothers and babies. Christ Church in Tarrytown has initiated a program to visit the children and help provide for their needs. They can use donations of backpacks and art supplies as well as money to purchase sneakers and cleats (the boys are huge soccer fans.) We have also been invited to join volunteers in visiting the children -- a group from Christ Church meets there at 1:30 on Sundays and travel together to Abbott House where they have a simple worship service and play games & visit with the kids. If you'd like more information or would like to be part of a group visiting the children in the future, please contact the office. There will be a box available for donated items beginning Sunday. If you'd like to make a financial donation, please make your check out to Grace Church with Abbott House on the memo line.

"WE WHO PRAYED AND WEPT" by Wendell Berry
|
We who prayed and wept for liberty from kings and yoke of liberty accept the tyranny of things we do not need. In plenitude too free, we have become adept beneath the yoke of greed.
Those who will not learn in plenty to keep their place must learn it by their need when they have had their way and the fields spurn their seed. We have failed Thy grace. Lord, I flinch and pray, send Thy necessity.
