The Epiphany -  January 5, 2014
Collect of the Day

O God, who by the leading of a star didst manifest thy only-begotten Son to the peoples of the earth: Lead us, who know thee now by faith, to thy presence, where we may behold thy glory face to face; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Reflection

"We now know that human transformation does not happen through didacticism or through excessive certitude, but through the playful entertainment of another scripting of reality that may subvert the old given text and its interpretation and lead to the embrace of an alternative text and its redescription of reality."

We need volunteers to provide breakfast for our guests at @7:30am on Sunday, January 12. This could be a wonderful experience for one or more of our church families whose children are old enough to help. If you think you can help, please contact Charlie Cross - cjcross3ny@yahoo.com.

FOR YOUR 2014 PLEDGE SUPPORT!

We give thanks to Almighty God for your continued faithful support of our beloved parish.  Through your commitment, Grace Church can continue to do God's healing, reconciling, and liberating work in Nyack and in the larger world.  We can continue to provide for the needs of those who come to this place for solace, strength, fellowship, spiritual growth and development.  Without you this would not be possible.  We are excited about the New Year ahead and our shared work in making Christ's loving presence known.

For those who have yet to turn in their pledge cards and/or have not made a commitment,  we need you and your help as well.  Please join us in affecting positive change in this community and in the lives of the Grace Church parish family.  Everyone and every pledge matters!  So please do your part.

In Christ,  Fr. Owen and the Stewardship Committee

Parting Thought

Snow
By Anne Sexton
from The Awful Rowing Toward God

(Houghton Mifflin, 1975.)

Snow,
blessed snow,
comes out of the sky
like bleached flies.
The ground is no longer naked.
The ground has on its clothes.
The trees poke out of sheets
and each branch wears the sock of God.

There is hope.
There is hope everywhere.
I bite it.
Someone once said:
Don't bite till you know
if it's bread or stone.
What I bite is all bread,
rising, yeasty as a cloud.

There is hope.
There is hope everywhere.
Today God gives milk
and I have the pail.
