Collect of the Day

Grant us, O Lord, to trust in you with all our hearts; for, as you always resist the proud who confide in their own strength, so you never forsake those who make their boast of your mercy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Reflection

The movement of the Spirit of God in the hearts of men and women often calls them to act against the spirit of their times or causes them to anticipate a spirit which is yet in the making. In a moment of dedication they are given wisdom and courage to dare a deed that challenges and to kindle a hope that inspires.

FAREWELL TO MO. ALON
This Sunday, September 8, Mo. Alon will celebrate her last services as interim rector with us.  Please join us to say farewell and thank you at a special coffee hour in her honor following the 11:00am service. 

 

If you have a favorite sweet or savory breakfast dish that you would like to share, or can help with set up/clean up, please be in touch with Kris Burns at 845-405-1203 or 

 

Numerous parishioners have asked about a farewell gift: if you would like to contribute to a "purse" to be presented to her, checks may be made out to Grace Church with "gift for Mo. Alon" indicated on memo line.  Contributions may be mailed/dropped off at the office, or placed in offering plate on Sunday. Please spread the word.

CHURCH SCHOOL REGISTRATION ON SUNDAY

Church School registration forms and syllabi will be available on Sunday, September 8 and Sunday, September 15, following the 9:30am service.  A new form must be filled out each year to ensure that we have current information on your child(ren). Classes begin Sunday, September 15, and run through June 8, directly following 9:30 am service and lasting 45 minutes - one hour.  Our classes combine a lectionary-based lesson and choir instruction. The church School is a cooperative program; we need the participation of many parents to keep things running smoothly!  Most of our teachers are parents; parents can assist teachers in the classroom, and parents bring refreshments for everyone to enjoy every Sunday. NEW JUNIOR YOUTH GROUP (JYG) - PARENT MEETING

Junior Youth Group (JYG) is about Grace Church 6th - 8th-graders bonding and developing a sense of community with each other.  Weekly sessions between the 9:30am and 11:00am service feature team building games, discussions about topics that will help youth navigate their way in today's world and lessons that will help them understand their Christian faith.  All JYG parents are asked to attend a parent meeting on Sunday, September 8at 10:30 am in the Bradley Chapel to learn about the JYG program and activities scheduled for the year. Church School Coordinator Lainie Murrell will also be available to answer questions on September 15. 

 

NEW 12th ANNUAL CONCERT FOR REMEMBRANCE

The 12th Annual Concert for Remembrance, 9/11 will be held at 5:00pm on Sunday, September 8, in memory of the victims and heroes lost on September 11, 2001.  Edward Simons, Music Director, and Holly Druckman will conduct. There is no charge for admission. The Concert for Remembrance 9/11 Orchestra is composed of professional musicians from orchestras in the Greater NY/NJ Metropolitan area and gifted students who all volunteer their time for this concert. 

 

Barbara Allen, American Ballet Theatre's principal harpist, will open the program followed by the world premier of "Resolution", a reflective piece composed by Jeremy Wall to remember all of the victims of September 11th. Mr. Wall is a founding member of Spyro Gyra and a Grammy Award nominee on numerous occasions. Holly Druckman will conduct. Jacqueline Drechsler, flute, Heather Vogel and Alison Crowther, violins, will perform a LeClair duet, with the third part composed by Edward Simons.The concert will conclude with Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23, K. 48, Jeremy Wall, soloist with Edward Simons conducting.

HELP WANTED

With our fall schedule around the corner, we're looking for someone who can work Sunday mornings as our kitchen coordinator -  making coffee,  setting up/monitoring/cleaning up post-service coffee hours, and supporting the volunteers who bring refreshments and act as hosts.  It is a paid position with hours of roughly 9:30am - 12:30pm.  If you are interested in learning more, please contact the office:  parishoffice@gracechurchnyack.org or 845-358-1297.

PEOPLE TO PEOPLE NEEDS SCHOOL SUPPLIES
With the school year coming, People to People is making a special effort to collect school supplies: backpacks, 1-inch and 2-inch binders, highlighters, blue and black stick pens, #2 pencils and two-pocket folders.Donations of school supplies can be dropped off at PtoP's offices at 121 West Nyack Road, Nanuet, NY. Donation drop-off hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday.

Remember as well that summer travel schedules are in play, and the shelves are practically bare over at People to People's food bank.  PLEASE, remember to bring your donations to church every week.
