The Sixth Sunday of Easter - May 5, 2013
|
Collect of the DayO God, you have prepared for those who love you such good things as surpass our understanding: Pour into our hearts such love towards you, that we, loving you in all things and above all things, may obtain your promises, which exceed all that we can desire; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Grace: A Permanent Climate of Divine Kindness
Grace is one of the most majestic words in theology. It suggests the sublime spontaneity of the divine which no theory or category could ever capture. Grace has its own elegance. It is above the mechanics of agenda or operation. No one can set limits to the flow of grace. Its presence and force remain unmeasurable and unpredictable. Grace also suggests how fluent and seamless the divine presence is. There are no compartments, corners or breakages imaginable in the flow of grace. Grace is the permanent climate of divine kindness. It suggests a compassion and understanding for all the ambivalent and contradictory dimensions of the human experience and pain. This climate of kindness nurtures the sore landscape of the human heart and urges torn ground to heal and become fecund. Grace is the perennial infusion of springtime into the winter of bleakness."

NEW LOOKING FOR CHURCH SCHOOL TEACHERS
Grace Church School is possible thanks to our dedicated group of volunteer church school teachers. These teachers are parents, grandparents, or any other adult who enjoys working with kids. Each grade level is assigned three teachers to enable a rotation that requires teaching no more than every third week - it usually comes out to about once a month, in fact. Please contact Lainie Murrell at 825-6236 or gracekidsnyack@gmail.com if you are interested in learning more about becoming a church school teacher. Thank you!

NEW EPISCOPAL CHARITIES SUNDAY
Next Sunday, May 12, is Episcopal Charities Sunday. The collection occurs on Mother's Day to commemorate the work of two different 19th century women, Anna Reeves Jarvis and Julia Ward Howe. Jarvis, a poor Appalachian mother, sought people and funds to improve sanitation for the women and families in her area in order to cut down on the incidents of childhood illnesses and early mortality. Howe formed activities urging mothers everywhere to reach across enemy combatant lines to work for peace. During the Civil War mothers on both sides of the battle worked together to ensure food availability for those in need. The May Episcopal Charities selection is for feeding programs throughout the diocese. We'll have special offering envelopes available in the office and narthex beginning on Sunday, May 5. Please give generously

How Then Can We Argue?
Having lunch in a field one day, I troubled an ant with some
questions. I asked of him humbly,
"Have you ever been to Paris?"
And he replied, "No, but I wouldn't mind going." And then asked me
if I had ever been to a famous ant city. And I regretted that
hadn't, and was quick to add, "I wouldn't mind,
too!"
This led to a conclusion: There is life that we do not know of.
How aware are we of all consciousness
in this universe?
What percent of space is this earth in the infinite realm?
What percent of time is one second
in eternity?
Less than that is our
How then can we ever
argue about
Him?
