Collect of the Day
Gracious Father, whose blessed Son Jesus Christ came down from heaven to be the true bread which gives life to the world: Evermore give us this bread, that he may live in us, and we in him; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Reflection

When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives mean the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares.

Parish Forum/Fellowship Time 10:10 - 10:55am

The time between the 9:30 and 11:00am worship services provides an opportunity for those attending either of the services to gather for programs and conversation.  Scheduling these events to meet the needs of those who want to socialize and those who want a planned forum is a challenge, given the shortage of available spaces to meet on Sunday mornings.

In an attempt to serve both needs, the Adult Education and Spiritual Formation Commission works to provide a balance by scheduling two forums a month and providing opportunities to socialize and have an extended coffee hour on the other Sundays.  We hope you will join us for one or both of these events in the time to come.

Here's the schedule for March:

Mar. 10   Forum - small table discussion of Luke 15:11b-32

Mar. 17   Easter Fair/hospitality

Games, Raffles, Treats, & Fun - All to benefit the Senior Youth Group's fundraising for this year's Church Youth Service Mission trip to Beard's Fork, WV.

There are no forums on Palm Sunday (3/24) or Easter Snday (3/31)

LENTEN PROGRAM CONTINUES

JOIN US ON WEDNESDAY EVENINGS IN LENT

Faithful people represent widely varied opinions on gun ownership and gun control. Sometimes we segment "what is going on in the world" from "what we talk about at church."Many have worries and concerns about different aspects of this complicated issue. The Adult Education and Spiritual Formation Commission invites you to journey with us this Lent in addressing some of these concerns so that we can begin a faithful and rational conversation about guns.

This discussion is not intended to promote any particular agenda or plan of action, simply to start the conversation.

Our remaining speakers:

March 13 (postponed from March 6) An Orangetwon Police Department school safety officer - discussing what parents and guardians need to know.

March 13                      TBA

A light supper will be served at 6:15 pm in Memorial Hall followed by our evening program,  which will include speakers and an opportunity to talk in small groups. Please  email us, or call and leave a message (845-358-1297 ext. 10)  if you are planning on attending the dinner so we know how many to prepare for. There is no need to RSVP if you are only coming for the program.

Parting Thought

Happiness
By Jane Kenyon

There's just no accounting for happiness,
or the way it turns up like a prodigal
who comes back to the dust at your feet
having squandered a fortune far away.

And how can you not forgive?
You make a feast in honor of what
was lost, and take from its place the finest
garment, which you saved for an occasion
you could not imagine, and you weep night and day
to know that you were not abandoned,
that happiness saved its most extreme form
for you alone.

No, happiness is the uncle you never
knew about, who flies a single-engine plane
onto the grassy landing strip, hitchhikes
into town, and inquires at every door
until he finds you asleep midafternoon
as you so often are during the unmerciful
hours of your despair.

It comes to the monk in his cell.
It comes to the woman sweeping the street
with a birch broom, to the child
whose mother has passed out from drink.
It comes to the lover, to the dog chewing
a sock, to the pusher, to the basket maker,
and to the clerk stacking cans of carrots
in the night.
It even comes to the boulder
in the perpetual shade of pine barrens,
to rain falling on the open sea,
to the wineglass, weary of holding wine.
