Saturday, March 9, 2013 11:00 -6:00 pm Observing your clients walk can provide valuable insights into strength, flexibility and postural imbalances. This workshop will present key principles of gait and gait terminology , as well as help you develop the observation and analytic skills that will allow you to understand gait and its practical implications for Pilates program design. Participants will learn classic and novel Pilates exercises designed to promote functional gait, improve common walking problems, and help prevent injuries. Course Objectives: * Understand the key concepts of gait and their implications for movement economy.
* Understand the traditional terminology used to describe the phases of walking, as well as some newer terminology. * Be able to identify and improve common errors such as disrupted pelvic-femoral rhythm, excessive lateral pelvic tilt, excessive lateral pelvic shift, hip circumduction, knee hyperextension, excessive ankle-foot pronation and lower segment rotations. * Be able to perform and provide effective cues for proper execution of selected classical and novel Pilates exercises designed to improve common errors in gait. ******************************************************** The Scapulohumeral Rhythm, Rotator Cuff, Shoulder Impingement & Pilates Sunday, March 10, 2013 10:00 -5:00 pm
This workshop will increase your understanding of and ability to recognize coordinated and disrupted movement between the scapula and upper arm (scapulohumeral rhythm). These concepts will then be applied to classical and novel Pilates exercises that are vital for promoting a healthy scaulohumeral rhythm, as well as working with clients with shoulder impingement and rotator cuff problems.

Course Objectives: * Understand the basic etiology of rotator cuff tears, shoulder bursitis, as well as primary and
secondary impingement syndromes. * Understand the importance of and be able to identify the optimal scapulohumeral rhythm
associated with raising the arms overhead. * Be able to identify common errors such as excessive scapular elevation, scapular winging,
and delayed scapular upward rotation. * Be able to perform and provide effective cues for proper execution of selected classical and
novel Pilates exercises for the muscles of the scapulae and rotator cuff. * Understand how to design a balanced Pilates program for the shoulder with particular
emphasis on maintaining or restoring optimal function of the muscles of the scapulae and
rotator cuff.

Advanced Assessment Skills 1May 3-5 Friday 11-8pm, Saturday 8-5pm and Sunday 8-5pm
Description: Advanced Assessment Skills 1 will deepen your skills to assess, problem solve and design intervention to improve quality of life of your clients. Advanced Assessment 1 covers head, neck spine and pelvis. This course will provide the teacher with basic skills in a static and dynamic postural assessment. The focus will be structural alignment in functional activities (squatting, walking, rolling and reaching). Emphasis on how Pilates exercises can influence asymmetries of the head, neck, trunk, pelvis and extremities. Amy says "Advanced Assessment 1 is a much deeper review of the spine and extremities, biomechanics and functional relational anatomy/neuroanatomy as it pertains to movement. This course will assist the practitioner to observe movement in greater detail to provide effective cues and assist the client toward efficient movement patterns." Come and learn skills to maximize outcome and increase professionalism in practice.
