Ambassador Spotlight - Molly Prater, First Bank of Virginia
We would like to introduce you to Molly Prater from First Bank of Virginia. Molly has been in banking for more than 30 years, and she has been the Vice President/Branch Manager of the First Bank of Virginia branch at the corner of Main and Washington in Downtown Blacksburg for almost two years. Her primary focus is to help consumer and local small business clients meet their financial needs while also managing the day-to-day operations of the branch.
Molly earned her BS from Radford University and attended the Virginia Bankers School of Bank Management at UVA. She may have spent some time at UVA, but she's admittedly 100% Hokie!
Molly has served on our Ambassador Team for eight months. She enjoys getting to know people from other parts of the local business community and learning more about what they do. The passion and enthusiasm of our business professionals motivates Molly to continue being an outstanding banker and to continue to learn as much as she can about the financial services industry.
In addition to serving as an Ambassador, Molly is the Treasurer of the Board for the YMCA at VT, and she is the Chairperson for the Advisory Council for RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) of Montgomery, Radford, and Floyd. Molly is a runner, and she competes in several 5Ks, 10Ks, and at least one half marathon every year. Impressive! A native of Blacksburg, Molly has a 27 year old daughter, Corey.
We're so thankful for Molly's participation with the Ambassador's and her support of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce.

2015 Chamber Magazine Cover Competition
Your Chamber of Commerce WANTS you to participate in the 2015 Quality of Life Magazine Cover Competition. We are looking for a photograph to serve as our 2015 magazine cover. The Cover should depict our local community in all of its vibrancy. We produce 7000 copies of the magazine which are distributed in the area throughout the year.
The cost to enter the competition is $30 per photo entered for members and $60 per photo for non-members. We plan to announce the entries and the winner at the Annual Dinner on December 4 with a cash prize of $100. The winner will be acknowledged in the magazine. The cover will become property of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce.
Second, third and fourth runners up may also be used in the magazine with credits given.

Hello!
As you may recall, Virginia Community Capital participates in the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses initiative. Through this partnership, VCC and Goldman Sachs are trying to strengthen the small business community by providing capital and free business training to small businesses throughout Virginia. See this link for more details.
Goldman Sachs is now taking applications from small business owners for a third national education class of 10,000 Small Businesses at Babson College in Spring 2015. The application deadline is October 27th. They will accept 150 businesses. We've had 13 Virginia businesses participate in the first two classes and all raved over the experience. Click to learn more from two graduates, Merissa Sachs of Marketing on Main Street, LLC and Jeff Anderson of bioRide.
This is truly a one of a kind educational opportunity. And, it is FREE. All expenses are free, including transportation to/from Babson College, accommodations, meals, and the course materials.
Once again it will be hosted at Babson College located in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Babson's Entrepreneurial program is consistently ranked #1 in the country. The agenda will cover 9 different business topics and participants will use their individual business as the case study for their personal learning experience. There will be various specialists/consultants working with participants on their business. There will be online work and 2 trips to Babson for 4 days of face to face learning. Again, all expenses are paid. As you can tell, this is a very practical and high paced program with a 99% completion rate. 64% of participating businesses reported an increase in revenues, 45% reported creating new jobs, and 80% are doing business with each other.
Here is where I need your help. I would like to spread the word about this program to as many Virginia businesses as I can. We are looking for businesses who want to grow rapidly. Typically, participants have been in business for at least 2 years, have recent year revenues of at least $150K and more than four employees. If you are a business, please apply. If you help businesses, feel free to forward this email or include the information in your newsletter. There are also two informational webinars for businesses to learn more about the program on October 8th and October 20th.
Apply today by visiting the VCC website or www.10ksbapply.com now through October 27th. The initial application process is very simple and applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. If you decide to apply, please list VCC as a referral source.
If you or someone you know has questions about the program, please send them to Ginny Hodges in our office. Ginny's email address is ghodges@vccva.org and her phone number is 804.793.0993. She will gladly answer any questions.
Thanks for your help. I hope we can get at least 10 local businesses accepted into the next class
