A Note from the Executive Director
Changes at the Chamber
We've Moved
2015 brought us home. A new home, a marvelous home; the 12th Avenue Arts Building. Since the Chamber was incorporated in 2007 we've occupied three other spaces - a storefront on John Street (demolished for construction of the Sound Transit light rail station), a sweet yellow house on the corner of 10th and Thomas (demolished for construction of the Lyric Building) and the Broadway Building (still going strong!). But this is the year that we came home.
The 12th Avenue Arts Building is a project built by Capitol Hill Housing, our neighborhoods Public Development Authority (PDA) and it has transformed what was once was the dreary East Precinct SPD parking lot into a beautiful, active space with two new grand theatre spaces, office suites for community organizations, over 100 units of affordable housing and...and underground parking lot for the East Precinct SPD. What was an underutilized, sad plot of land is now full of art, action and hope. Working with the City of Seattle, arts groups, local businesses and community leaders, Capitol Hill Housing is activating a key block of the Hill to ensure diverse benefits for the entire neighborhood. And we, at the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce, get to be a part of it. Lucky us.Lucky you.Lucky Hill.
We're justly proud of our place in this wonderful new addition to Capitol Hill. You can find us on the second floor, right next to Three Dollar Bill Cinema. Down the hall is Seattle Academy, and at the other end of that hallway, the offices of Capitol Hill Housing. Coming soon; Black Box Productions and the shows of Strawberry Theatre Workshop, New Century Theatre Company and Washington Theatre Ensemble (W.E.T.). The upcoming show calendar can be found here: http://www.blackboxoperations.org/.
And don't forget to note our new address: 1620 12th Avenue, Suite 204, Seattle, WA 98122
Saying Goodbye to Our Membership and Programs Manager
Michelle served just over two years at the Chamber and is moving on to new ventures. She'll be helping with the transition to new staffing by continuing to process membership dues and maintaining the website. During this time we'll use "office@caphillchamber.org" as our main email address for all things related to membership. Please save this email as a "safe" email so you can be ensured to get all our emails, including this newsletter.
Sincerely,
Michael Wells
