Advocating for Safety on Capitol Hill
 |
Michael Wells with new Police Chief Kathleen O'Toole and CAPA board member Erin Blakeney at the SPD East Precinct picnic on Aug. 30
|
An August spike in criminal activity on the Hill has spurred an increase in our advocacy for a clean and safe environment for businesses and residents to thrive. Executive Director Michael Wells has been reaching out to the Mayor, the SPD and others to ensure we have enough police coverage (and the funding to pay for it). Here are some of the highlights of that work:

UPDATE: Safety meeting with East Precinct TOMORROW
 |
SPD foot patrol heading over to Cal Anderson Park on Sept. 4
|
The Chamber has scheduled a meeting with the SPD East Precinct for tomorrow, Friday, September 5 at noon, at the Precinct. We've invited business owners and the Nightlife Safety folks, as well as the Chamber's Clean & Safe Committee and board members.
We have requested attendance from the Chief and the Mayor's staff and have emphasized with them the importance of an official response to our concerns. I believe that it will take a conversation larger than Precinct staff to really address our issues.
If you would like to attend, please RSVP to Michael Wells. Space is an issue, and we may need to find a larger room. michael@caphillchamber.org. 206-328-6646
_______________________________________________________________ Activating Cal Anderson Part of the chamber advocacy work includes activating our parks as a way to encourage positive public uses. We've partnered with the Cal Anderson Park Alliance (CAPA) to just that. Check out July 4th recap of the picnic in the park and follow CAPA on Facebook to learn about events in the park in advance.

Chamber Office Moving to 12th Ave. Arts Building
We're getting excited about our move to our new office at the 12th Ave. Arts Building in November. Capitol Hill Housing (CHH) is finishing up the construction. We'll be on the second floor in between CHH and Three Dollar Bill. Seattle Academy will also have space upstairs, and two new black box theaters are downstairs. OutSmart Office Solutions will be outfitting the new space and new member Rob Sichel from Comcast Business will handle our phone and internet transition. Perhaps most exciting for Chamber staff is the incredibly short trek to a bathroom along with access to a large conference room onsite. Stay tuned!
