ALUMNI HEAD BACK TO CAMPUS TO SUPPORT FRESHMAN FORMATION WEEKEND

The Class of 2019 officially began their Servite journey with Freshman Formation Weekend July 24th-26th.  Wearing plain white t-shirts and black shorts, students arrived Friday afternoon for a full weekend of physical training, spiritual formation, team building and fun. Larry Toner and Chris Weir '97 of Servite's Formation Program led a team of staff, current students and alumni as the newest Friars were introduced to beloved Servite traditions and challenged to go outside their comfort zones.

Jack Bauerle '83 volunteered at Freshman Formation weekend..

From creating priory flags to completing an obstacle course, the young men began to work together and form the bonds of lifelong brotherhood. At Saturday night's bonfire, a letter was read from Dwight Mohler '72 about how the lessons he learned at Servite have served him throughout his life.  He encouraged the students to take advantage of every opportunity while they are at Servite so they don't look back with regret.

Kevin Ruiz '95 was one of the Servite alumni who gave up his weekend to volunteer.  "It has been 20 years since I graduated from Servite, and so much has changed about the school, but thanks to tradition, it still feels like home," said Ruiz. "This weekend reminded me how the brotherhood I experienced while I was in school extends beyond my class. I really enjoyed being part of Freshman Formation 2015, watching these young men push themselves beyond what they expected and seeing them strengthen as a class. I look forward to what the class of 2019 will accomplish together during their next four years, and I can't wait for the day they will stand next to the rest of us in welcoming more to our Brotherhood." Welcome, Class of 2019!

JOIN US TO CELEBRATE THE INDUCTION OF MIKE WITT '78 INTO ANGELS HALL OF FAME

Join fellow alumni and Servite families as we celebrate the induction of Mike Witt '78 into the Angels Baseball Hall of Fame. CLASS OF 1973 REMEMBERS KEVIN STEPHENSON WITH HONORED JERSEY PRESENTATION

By: Kelly Boulger '73, Alumni Association President

At Servite's varsity home opener versus Fountain Valley on August 28th, the class of 1973 will honor our classmate, the late Kevin Stephenson, at a special pre-game ceremony. Kevin played offensive and defensive tackle for Servite High School in the early 70's.  In 1972, he was a Captain and a member of the original Curia. He was All Angelus League, All Orange County, and All CIF.  In 1973, he was named Athlete of the Year, even though he only played one sport.  More importantly, Kevin was well liked and respected by all of his teammates.  He was relentless in practice, always prepared for his opponent, and absolutely dominant on both sides of the line.  Off the field, Kevin was quiet and humble.  He was our leader, but he hardly ever had to open his mouth, except when he was encouraging his teammates.  He led by example.  He was a gentle giant, our quiet leader.  After high school, Kevin went on to play for  Washington State, got his degree, and went on to law school and became a successful lawyer in San Diego County.  When Kevin passed away in 2004, the Class of 1973 wanted to find a way to honor our friend and teammate.   The Honored Jersey, with Kevin's number 78, is given annually to the player that best exemplifies the spirit and dedication of Kevin Stephenson.  It is Servite's only Honored Jersey.  The player is selected by the coaching staff to wear the Honored Jersey is a young man with humility and leadership who is respected by his teammates and coaches.  He is a quiet leader.  He is a gentle giant.  He is Kevin Stephenson.  We encourage all alumni who knew Kevin as well as former Honored Jersey recipients to join us for this special ceremony at the football game on August 28th.
