The 2013-14 Honors and AP sign-ups process begins March 5!
Attention Students interested in taking Honors and/or Advanced Placement courses next year: In order to be enrolled in an Honors or AP course, you must first get teacher approval. Approval is granted based on pre-determined criteria established by the departments. Not all courses have the same approval requirements, but criteria can include academic GPA, grades in pre-requisite courses, writing samples, brief assessments, etc. On March 5, you will have 50 minutes to sign up for all of the courses for which you request APPROVAL. Being approved for a course does not guarantee that you will be enrolled in that course next year. You must request that course on your Course Request Form (which you will get in early April). Tuesday, March 5 is a Late Start Tuesday. All students who need to be approved for courses must sign up according to each course's requirements (some will require you to sign a paper log, some will require you to fill out a Google form). Handouts will be available for each course. The handouts include a brief description of the course, what criteria you must meet to get approval and the expectations of the course (regarding homework, projects, AP exams, etc.). Use this information wisely. Try to balance your obligations so that you are able to meet all expectations. Certain courses might look good on a transcript, but if you can't meet the obligations of the course, you may do yourself more harm than good. Check in with your counselor to discuss your options. On March 5, 0-Period classes will be held from 7:00 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. to allow 0-Period students to sign up for HP/AP courses. All Math course placements will be determined on students' performance on the MDTP administered later in the year (except for AP Statistics). All Foreign Language Honors placements will be done internally through your current classes. See your current foreign language teacher if you are interested in taking an honors course next year. All Theology Honors placements will be done internally through your current classes. See your current theology teacher if you are interested in taking an honors course next year. All Advanced Music placements will be done internally through your current classes. See your current music teacher if you are interested in taking Classical Guitar 2, 3 or 4, Concert Band 2, Jazz Band, or Advanced Choir. Click here for a list of courses for which you MUST obtain approval. Please note that there are some electives on this list. Honors and AP sign ups will be held from 8:00 - 8:50 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5. Any student who is absent on Tuesday must make arrangements to see his counselor no later than Thursday, March 7 to be added to the list for the course. Students who do not obtain approval to take the course will not be enrolled in that course for the 2013-14 school year.

Tri-School Students to perform in Sacramento
On March 12, 2013, over three hundred Theatre students, theatre educators, friends and administrators from many schools in California gather at the state capitol to breakfast with legislators and legislative aides. During the past thirteen years over two thousand students and teachers have participated in this statewide event.Tri-School Theatre has attended this event annually since 2006.
The Governor and the Legislature of California have declared March 12, 2013, as California Youth in Theatre Day. The Legislative Resolution by the Senator Curran Price states that "Whereas these students are the future of the arts and entertainment business of the twenty-first century; and Whereas, by succeeding in theatre, the students learn the art of creative endeavors with assurance; and Whereas, their success in theatre lead to enhance job esteem and cultural appreciation, therefore, it..that March 12, 2013, is CALIFORNIA YOUTH IN THEATRE DAY, and extends highest compliments to the student performers and their teachers, and parents on their accomplishments and their promise."
Prize-winning Theatre students are invited to perform at the Sacramento Theatre Company during the 14th Annual CYIT. After greeting legislators at the Capitol, the students perform, take workshops from the STC talented staff, enjoy a Southern California ComedySportzLA match, listen to inspirational speakers, and receive certificates from CA Educational Theatre Association. CETA awards each student and Theatre educator in attendance with certificates declaring Excellence in Theatre.
Melia Gonzalez, Rosary, earned a scholarship from the California State Thespian Society to attend this event. Hannah Butler, Connelly, received a scholarship for her award-winning Theatre Advocacy Essay. And Gregory Jenn, Servite, was invited to attend as a recipient of multiple Music and Arts Commendation for Youth Awards last year. Students will visit legislators during the day communicating how important the arts are to young people. It is an excellent opportunity for students to see how they can have an impact on their government, and be lobbyists for the arts in education.
