Tri-School Theatre
Tri-School Theatre students Mel Gonzalez (Rosary) and Hunter Berecochea (Servite) have been selected to perform in the March 4th concert "Making Magic: Defying Gravity" at Bridges Auditorium at the Claremont Colleges along with performers from the National Tour of Wicked. They will work with the touring company's musical director, and share the stage with these Broadway professionals. Only 8 students from southern California high schools are selected for this honor. This concert is an educational fundraiser for International Thespian Honor Society scholarships. Credo!
Tri School Theatre Winter Banquet
On December 18th, The Tri School Theatre Winter Banquet was held at Cornelia Connelly High School. The Banquet was put on by the Tri School Theatre Thespian Board. Seven students from Servite were inducted to the International Thespian Society: Scott Halverson, Tim Hepps, Brandon Martinez, oman Curiel, Joshua Van Driesen, Dominic Grisotti, Matt Michalak.
The December Thespian of the Month award was given to Gregory Jenn, Junior. The October Thespian of the Month award was awarded to Jonathan Saucedo, Junior. Congratulations to all students inducted into the International Thespian Society and to all the Thespians of the Month! Tri-School is thrilled to announce that we have been accepted to the 2014 American High School Theatre Festival (AHSTF) in Edinburgh, Scotland. This is held in conjunction with the Fringe Festival, the largest performing arts festival in the world. This selection is an honor for our school community, as the application process is competitive. We were nominated by state and regional organizations to apply, and our application was then reviewed by a Board of Advisors, comprised of college theatre professors. The top programs are identified based on their bodies of work, awards, community involvement, and recommendations. The selection of our program from submitted applications is based on our philosophy towards training students in theatre. This will be Tri-School Theatre's third time as a part of this program. We are the only high school theatre in Orange County to participate three times in this honor. During the two-week program, students will experience London, England as well as Edinburgh, Scotland. We will take a full-scale musical cast and crew to perform in Edinburgh as a part of the Fringe Festival. This trip is an amazing opportunity for our students, and we look forward to planning all of the details of our summer 2014 trip.

From the Podium
A Teacher's Perspective
Physics
On December 17th/18th, Mr. O'Neill's CP Physics classes demonstrated skills learned in the first semester to the student body, faculty, and staff in the quad. Exhibits were showcased in the quad during 1st, 4th period, and throughout lunch. They constructed ramps, hot air balloons, water rockets, and even a potato launcher and a giant Newton's Cradle with bowling balls, all to demonstrate concepts learned in Physics this first semester. Student's put a lot of time and effort into these projects and it was rewarding to see how the student body enjoyed the event. A big congratulations to the students for their hard work!
Painting
Six students (Matthew Baray, Gerard deGuia, Ryan Richter, Juan Carlos Martinez, Jacob Richards, and Andre Orate) in Mrs. Van Metre's CP Painting class are members of the National Art Honor Society (www.arteducators.org), Chapter #2986, chartered at Servite High School in 2008. They participated in The Memory Project as a service project for the NAHS. The Memory Project is a nation wide initiative to create portraits of children who have been neglected, disadvantaged or orphaned. This year the Servite students researched the country of origin to familiarize themselves with the progression of events that led up to the current political upheaval which resulted in creating orphans out of families torn by strife. They were sent photographs of six children whose portraits they painted in watercolor. These portraits will be hand delivered to the children in Africa by the founder and director of the Memory Project, Ben Shumaker as a gift to the child from the Servite student who painted him or her. For many of the orphans these are the only personal possessions they have and represent the love and concern of an unknown student half a world away.
