Greetings!

Grandparent's Day
March 28, 2013

The Blessed Holiday of Christmas is here. While celebrating with family,  please let your students' grandparents know about a special Servite event being planned just for them during Easter week!  Grandparents Day at Servite is March 28, 2013 (Holy Thursday).   The grandparents will spend the morning with their grandson(s) on campus, enjoy unique entertainment and a delicious meal, engage in classroom activities and witness a special Servite reenactment of the Stations of the Cross. Invite Friar grandparents  now so they can save the date to join your sons for this very special day!

There will be no charge for attending the event, but reservations will be required.  Details will be coming soon!

Audition Workshop

Audition Workshop for the

Spring Musical

Tri-School Theatre is hosting a FREE audition workshop on Monday, December 17th 3:30-6:30 at Connelly High School for all students who may be interested in auditioning for our spring musical, Damn Yankees! There is no experience required, and it is open to all grade levels.  This workshop is a fun way to see what an audition is all about, and to get some practice in a no-stress environment.  You will learn a song from the show, a dance from the show, practice reading from the script, and learn how to do a resume and prepare for your audition.  Also, students attending the workshop will have the first opportunity to sign up for an audition time slot for the actual auditions in January.  Questions about the workshop or auditions?  E-mail the director, Mrs. Hillary Pearson  at hpearson@servitehs.org

Students: Click here for Test Taking Strategies

Here are some great tips on how to do your best on the upcoming final exams. These are brought to you courtesy of Ms. Debbie Blashaw, Director of Student Support Services, and the Academic Achievement teachers, Mr. Dan Coates and Mr. Daryl Williams. These tips are universal and can be implemented by any student who want to reduce his stress and do well on his final exams.

A Teacher's Perspective

Guitar

Servite's 5th period Guitar Class was visited by Chapman College Professor, Jeff Cogan and one of his alum students, Daniel de Arakal, who recently finished his masters at USC. Daniel played for them and then student groups played for Professor Cogan. Cogan spent time coaching those groups. THe students performed works by Haydn, Handel and Ferrer and learned a lot.

Servite has a unique relationship

with the Chapman music department. Students in Guitar III and IV can receive concurrent college credit for guitar ensemble class through Chapman. They register for the course , Mr. Goodhart gives them their grade and they have college credit on their transcript.

We host several events a year like this in which master teachers from schools such as Chapman, Vangard, Azusa Pacific and others come here to give our music students expert coaching.

Spanish Club

December 12, 2012 was the day of the Virgen Mary of Guadalupe, which is a very important day for the hispanic community.  Here at Servite, the Spanish Club gathered at 7:00 a.m. to sing "las mananitas" to the Virgin Mary. The students also brought roses to honor her on her special day.  After, the Spanish Club sold hot chocolate, tamales, and pan dulce to raise money to provide food and gifts to two needy families for Christmas.
