Hamilton Collects We're pretty excited about the new exhibit at McMaster Innovation Park, featuring selections from the City of Hamilton's corporate art collection. We know how much talent there is in Hamilton's past and present. We were pleased to see local artists' work presented in such a way.
In this week's newsletter we feature some of the artists in the Hamilton Collects exhibit that are also in the collection at the Arctic Experience McNaught Gallery. Come in and see for yourself!

John Sloan Gordon About half of the paintings featured in Hamilton Collects were previously in storage. Many were in need of conservation, including a pointillist rendering of Dundurn Castle by John Sloan Gordon. The artist learned the technique in Europe before bringing it back to his students and colleagues in Hamilton. Hanging next to the painting is a landscape by Hortense Gordon, John's wife, respected artist, and member of the Painters Eleven.

 Robert Peachey
John Sloan and Hortense Gordon were active in the early 20th century. Hamilton Collects features a wide selection of historical works including portraits and scenes of Hamilton. Also featured are pieces from contemporary artists who showcase Hamilton's beauty in their work. We're happy that Rob Peachey's contemporary winter escarpment scene is one of the featured works.
