"Many people have a wrong idea of what constitutes true happiness. It is not attained through self-gratification but through fidelity to a worthy purpose."

- Helen Keller

"When I chased after money, I never had enough. When I got my life on purpose and focused on giving of myself and everything that arrived into my life, then I was prosperous."

- Dr. Wayne Dyer

""People are not lazy. They simply have impotent goals - that is, goals that don't inspire them."

-Anthony Robbins

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence , then, is not an act, but a habit."

Captain are we going to repeat last year all over again?  Are we going to change, or are we going to sit still doing as we have done in the past?

Will there be any excitement, challenge, and fun to 2014?  Will there be an adventure to look forward to? Will you let go of relationships that drain you and add ones that create value for you and the other person? Will you grow? Will you learn new things?

Me, I just had a big birthday. So big that when people ask me how old I am, I subtract twenty years. Some are even polite enough not to laugh. I feel twenty years younger than my age.

Who has their goals written for 2014? Who has a plan, scheduled on the calender to accomplish the goals? Who has blocked out vacation time on the calender?

Who needs help? We all do!  We all need mentors, coaches, guides, and supporters. Be they paid or not, we all need them.  Who helps you? Be sure you spend time with them this year.

Who are you going to help? What organizations are you going to volunteer your time, talent, and treasures to?  Sure, family first, but we always have time for others too.

It's not too late to start. Today is the best option you have for starting. Start, you'll be amazed at how fast you can put it together.

I reread two great books during vacation. Feeling is the Secret by Neville and The Game of Life by Florence Scovel-Shinn.  They both say the same thing in different ways with different styles. Neville is just the facts, great information without excess words or stories. Florence uses more words and stories. Both are great, and I'd suggest both to you. That is, if you want a successful, happy, and fulfilling life. Yes, you can get them from our bookstore on the left.

2014  New?  Different?  Same?

What will 2014 be for you?

An exciting adventure?

The year you finally realize you are in control of your life?

The year you make meaningful changes?

A repeat of past years?

First, review 2013, if you have not already done so.  You might want to answer these questions:

What did I accomplish?

What am I most proud of accomplishing?

What habits held me back?

What new habits moved me forward?

Where did I waste time?

What risks did I take?

What lessons did I learn?

What do I wish I had done that I did not do?

Don't just look at the questions. Get out paper and pencil and write down the answers. The more time you invest in the answers the valuable it will be to you.

Now, about 2014, more questions:

What are my top 5 or 10 goals for 2014?

Why are they important to me?

How important are they?

Why will I accomplish them?

What is my plan, and timeline for each goal?

Who, if anyone, do I need to assist me?

What professional help do I need?

What habits do I need to eliminate?

What new habits do I need to cultivate?

What are leftover goals from 2013 that were not accomplished?

What will I do differently this year so that I will succeed at these goals?

2014 will not be fun if it's a repeat of a previous year that was not successful.  2014 will be what you make it, and you are responsible for making it. No one else is responsible.

You are not responsible for what happens to you caused by others and circumstances. You are responsible for your reaction to it. Your reaction is the solution to moving forward.

Need a coach, get a coach. Need training, get training. Need partners, find partners you trust and respect.

2014 can be, and should be, your best year ever. All the previous years have given you knowledge and insight. Use the learning from your mistakes not to repeat them. Use your skills and do those things that bring you joy and a sense of accomplishment.

It's simple, it's up to you. Chart your course, follow the course, adjust as needed based on circumstances.  Keep the destination in mind.
