It is an exciting time in Morgan Hill's Downtown. On May 21, 2014 the City Council provided direction to staff to move forward with the Downtown Placemaking Investment Strategy.  Many downtown projects are now preparing to move forward. 

It is a lot to keep track of!

In an effort to keep the community informed, this downtown project update will be provided on a biweekly basis.

Complete Streets

A kickoff meeting was held with the City and Alta Planning + Design on December 2, 2014.  A project schedule was developed for implementation of the lane reduction in February 2015.  Alta Planning + Design is now developing plans for the City to review.

Downtown Parking Structure        

 

At the December 17, City Council the Design/Build contract was awarded to F&H Construction.

Demolition and grading of the site is expected to begin in February

Art and Placemaking Mini Grants 

18 Mini grant applications were received offering a variety of diverse possibilities for art and placemaking in the downtown.

 

Awardees will be named the week of December 22, and projects will be installed beginning the second week of March.  

 

Downtown Development Opportunity Sites                    

The RFPs due date was extended to January 5, 2015

Streets, Traffic Calming, Pedestrian Safety, Bikes and Transit                       
Pedestrian Activated Crosswalks

The Pedestrian Activated Crosswalks will now be implemented in 3 locations. 

1) Del Monte and Dunne  

2) Del Monte and Main 

3) Central and Monterey 

Preliminary design plans are being reviewed by the City and is on track to be constructed in March 2015.

 

 

Streetscape Design Concepts 

Nothing new to report this in this update. 

 

 

Utility Undergrounding

Final design plans should be submitted to the utility companies by December 31. 

 

Resident meetings will be held in early spring of 2015.

The Parks and Trails team will continue to work with Joni Janecki & Associates to develop concept designs for the three locations, including: Depot Street Park, Llagas Creek Park, and Nob Hill Trail.

 

Design concepts will return to the Parks and Recreation Commission at the regular meeting on January 20.
