Why CSA May Raise Your Insurance Costs

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), together with its state partners and the trucking industry, are working to reduce commercial motor vehicle crashes, injuries and fatalities on our nation's highways. To this end, the FMCSA implemented the Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) program. CSA has enforcement and compliance models that allow the FMCSA to identify high-risk motor carriers, as well as individual drivers, and intervene in ways that work to reduce high risk behaviors and impact safety.

Do you know where you Stand? If you’re not sure, we encourage you to find out, as well as, understand what your numbers mean to your business. This information is available to the public (customers), the DOT and your insurance carrier.

There are two ways you can access your CSA score:

  1. Enter your USDOT number and USDOT number PIN into the SMS login page.
(If you don’t have a PIN, request one from the USDOT. You’ll receive your PIN via snail mail in 4-7 days.)
  2. Alternately, you can login to the FMCSA Portal and click the SMS link.

We found this article from Ryder’s Safety Department to be a well-balanced and informative perspective on the topic. They have a guide available too! Just follow the link : http://bit.ly/18SE6mh

The visible costs are easily identified and precisely calculated. Depending on your insurance program, the total cost may or may not be reimbursable. However, in most cases policies carry a deductible which must be absorbed by the company. READ MORE
