Compost is one of the best things about moving from California to Massachusetts*. Yes, compost does exist in California, but the norm is small yards and not a lot of room for compost bins (and gardens), which are much more prevalent here in Massachusetts. Even after a dozen years, come spring I still revel in digging some fresh compost out of the bins and marveling at how avocado pits, orange peels, yard waste and even lobster shells all come together through alchemy to create rich, black earth. One of the true marvels of nature. Since I started writing Over the Hump I have been pondering how to turn the composting process into a business insight--and am stumped. The best I can come up with is to trust Life to create something wonderful from an unsightly jumble. Compost also teaches me that not everything is as it appears--sometimes things just need a little processing to become the truest version of themselves. What about you? Do you help nature create compost? Do you marvel at the process or think I am a bit whacked?
Continued success!
Nature is man's teacher.
She unfolds her treasure to his search,
unseals his eye, illumes his mind,
and purifies his heart. ~ Alfred Billings Street
* The best thing is meeting Jeff, unquestionably.
