Happy Thanksgiving and prayer request
November 2006

The following is actually my blog posting for yesterday, but it contains a prayer request so I wanted to be sure as many of you as possible saw it...because I know we've been good with prayers for each other. By the way, look for the holiday issue of the InTouch Newsletter next week! - Elaine

Graham Crackers for Thanksgiving?
Thanksgiving is coming up this week. Visions of big, fat stuffed turkeys, mashed potatoes, candied yams and pumpkin pies dance in our heads. I can’t imagine that anyone is thinking that they will be having graham crackers on their Thanksgiving plates. . . except for my family.

I have a close friend who was diagnosed with aggressive cancer earlier this year. She’s a single mom since her husband died suddenly about 3 years ago. She has kept an amazing attitude throughout this entire ordeal and sends out “update” emails to us every once in a while telling us how things are going for her. I just read her most recent update and she said that they revised her chemo “cocktail” due to. . . as she calls it. . . a stubborn little bugger of a tumor. This one brings with it severe nausea as a side effect when she hasn’t suffered with this before. In closing her update, she wished us all a happy Thanksgiving and made a quip that while we were enjoying our turkey, she would probably be enjoying graham crackers and milk (since that was all she could keep down).

Well, I’m going to share that in spirit with her on Thursday too. Next to the turkey, I’ll place two graham crackers on everyone’s plate. We’re going to eat those crackers and say a prayer for Sandie to recover, and to help us remember how lucky WE are today and every day. This Thursday, while you’re savoring your turkey and your health, have graham crackers – and say a prayer for my Sandie, and for anyone you know who just might not be as lucky as you are. . . even when you think you’re not. I’ve discovered that there is always someone who is worse off than we are. I’m grateful for my family, my friends and my health. I pray that I’ll always remember that! Have a blessed Thanksgiving, my friends.

Best,

Elaine Dumler
