Spring 2017 CSU Transfer Applications
California State Universities (CSUs) will be accepting Spring 2017 transfer applications on the dates listed below. Spring quarters and semesters begin January 2017.
  • CSUs on the Quarter System: June 1-30
  • CSUs on the Semester System: August 1-30
Application assistance will be available at the front desk. You may also make an appointment for assistance with Transfer Center Coordinator, Rachel Anicetti after June 18.    

 
Transfer Workshops
Two transfer workshops will be offered this summer to assist students to apply for transfer.

UC Essay Workshop
Learn about UC's new "Personal Insight" application questions, build an outline and write your answers with the support of Transfer & Career Services staff. Drop in on Wednesday, August 3 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in SS4-412.

CSU Spring Semester Application Workshop
CSU spring applications (to transfer Spring 2017) are due August 30. Come to Transfer & Career Services to complete your CSU application with assistance from our staff. Drop in on Wednesday, August 3 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in SS4-412

Summer career counseling is available!  Make an appointment online or call (925) 473-7444.

Did you graduate in May or are you graduating soon?  Make sure Admissions & Records has your current address on file so we can mail your diploma to the right place!  

Spring 2016 Graduates
Congratulations to the LMC graduating class of 2016!  If you completed your graduation requirements in the spring semester, you should receive your diploma by September 15.

Summer 2016 Graduates
The last day to apply for Summer 2016 graduation is July 1.  Students who complete their graduation requirements this summer can expect to receive their diplomas in the mail by October 15.

Financial Aid Workshops Are Coming To Brentwood Center
Come see how Financial Aid can put you on the path to success! Attend a free financial aid workshop and learn about all of the financial aid options available for students pursuing higher education, including the various state and federal grants. New financial aid disbursement methods coming Fall 2016
Beginning Fall 2016, students will have three options for receiving their financial aid awards. The funding options are:
  • Money Network Enabled CollegeCash Card: A reloadable prepaid account, funds are delivered within one day.
  • ACH/direct deposit: Funds are delivered to your checking account three to seven business days after the funds are disbursed.
  • Paper check: Delivered up to 14 days after funds are disbursed.

SCHOLARSHIP NEWS

2016-2017 Scholarship Awards Update 
 
Congratulations to all of our LMC scholarship recipients!  Here are some highlights from the 2016-2017 scholarship season. 
  • The LMC Foundation awarded over $82,000 in scholarships for 2016-2017.
  • The NSF S-STEM Scholarship awarded over thirty scholarships to continuing LMC students and eight scholarships to transferring students for up to $5,000 each.
  • Assistance League of Diablo Valley awarded the following scholarships to LMC students:
    • Seven transfer scholarships for up to $4,000.
    • One Foster Youth Scholarship for up to $4,000.
    • One Spotlight on You Scholarship for up to $3,000.
  • The Diablo Vista Retired Teachers Association awarded five transferring student scholarships at $5,000 each.
Students who were awarded an LMC Foundation Scholarship for 2016-2017 can begin accessing their scholarship funds after July 1, 2016. More information

It may seem like "scholarship season" is over, but there are still scholarships available. Here are a few that may interest you.

 

East Contra Costa County Republican Women Federated (ECCRWF)

$1,000 - apply by June 30, 2016

Open to female students enrolled for training in a technical school or returning to school, working towards a degree or certificate, and minimum GPA of 3.0.

 

California Nurses Association Martha Horton Scholarship Fund

$500 - apply by August 1, 2016

Must be accepted for admission to an accredited associate degree nursing program for academic year 2016-2017 and planning to complete the degree program within two years. Must live in Marin, Sonoma, Napa, Humboldt, Mendocino, Contra Costa, or Solano County.

 

California Council of the Blind Scholarship  

$500 - apply by July 1, 2016

The California Council of the Blind gives a number of awards to the most deserving student applicants who are legally blind residents of California.  Awards are made to students who will enter or continue undergraduate or graduate studies at an accredited college, university or vocational school.

S.T.E.L.A.R.
The annual S.T.E.L.A.R. (Student Engagement Leadership Award Recognition) Awards Ceremony took place on Friday, May 20 in the outdoor quad. Students from various learning communities were recognized for their outstanding leadership skills and involvement within the LMC community. Students who received an award will have their names engraved on perpetual plaques in the Office of Student Life for years to come.

Dunking for charity
Dunk Tank
The Food Pantry Project raised over $700 as part of their Dunk Tank Fundraiser that took place in the outdoor quad on May 10 and 11. Participants who volunteered to be dunked included students, staff, faculty, and our very own LMC President, Bob Kratochvil. The funds raised will go into a food pantry fund that will focus on providing foods for students.
APPLY TO EOPS!

Extended Opportunity Programs & Services (EOPS) began accepting applications for Fall 2016 on Monday, May 2.  EOPS is a state-funded student support service program established to promote the enrollment, retention, persistence, and success of low-income students and those from backgrounds underrepresented in higher education by offering services that are above, beyond and in addition to services available to all Los Medanos College students.

Parking Reminders
 
Parking at the Brentwood Center is free, but there are some restricted areas where students are not allowed to park. See the parking map for parking options.  Remember, we share the parking lot with many other businesses, so please drive safely and watch for pedestrians. Protect your valuables by storing them out of site and locking your car.  Questions about parking can be answered by Police Services, located at the entrance to the Brentwood Center, or by calling (925) 473-6919.

Bookstore
Book sales at the Brentwood Center will run from June 13 to 16 only.  Book sale hours are 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 1:30 to 7:00 p.m. For additional bookstore information, go to www.lmcbookstore.net.

Financial Aid
The Financial Aid Office at the Brentwood Center is now open daily. Drop-in hours for summer are:   
  • Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. (closed for lunch 12:30 - 1:00 p.m.)
  • Wednesday, 1:30 -5:30 p.m.
Financial Aid Workshops at the Brentwood Center!
Financial Aid workshops will provide you with all the options available for students pursuing higher education. We'll start with a presentation on the various federal and state grants, and then provide hands-on assistance with completing FAFSA on the Web. Free Wifi!
LMC provides on-campus WiFi access to students.  Log in using your Insite user name and password.  Please report any technical difficulties to the front office, including Computer Lab and printing issues.

Lost and Found
Police Services, located in the front entrance to the Brentwood Center, is open at all times the center is open and maintains the lost and found inventory.  If you are missing an item, please stop by or call (925) 473-6919. Police Services can also assist you in finding your classroom, answer questions about parking, and provide an escort to your vehicle upon request.
 
Emergencies
Call 911 for all emergencies!  Call (925) 778-2441 for non-emergency police assistance, 24 hours a day.
