2016 Graduation Ceremony
Are you graduating this spring? If so, don't miss out! The 2016 Graduation Ceremony is your opportunity to celebrate your hard-earned achievement with your classmates, instructors and staff.

This year's graduation ceremony will be held on Friday, May 27 at the football stadium. If you have applied for graduation and completed the requirements during Summer 2015, Fall 2015 or are approved or pending for Spring 2016 semester, check your InSite email. You will receive an invitation to participate in the ceremony soon! For complete information, see the 2016 Graduation Newsletter.


Not graduating but want to attend? No tickets are necessary!  Come on out and celebrate the success of your family and friends who are graduating this year!

Graduation Status Notification
If you applied for Spring 2016 graduation, you have already received your notification letter.  Check your InSite email for details.

If you will be graduating in Summer 2016 and applied to walk in the Spring 2016 graduation ceremony with coursework remaining, you will be notified of your status in mid-May.

Fall 2016 registration has begun!
Fall priority registration began on May 2. If you have not yet done so, check "My Priority Registration Appointment" on InSite/WebAdvisor right away to see when you are eligible to register for fall classes.  For the best selection of classes, it is recommended that you register on your priority registration appointment date. 
Study Slam!

Get help preparing for finals while munching on pizza and snacks.  On Wednesday, May 18 from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m., the Center for Academic Support will hold it's once-a-semester Study Slam.  Get reading and writing assistance with more consultants than ever before!  Prepare for finals with our awesome peer tutors!  Just drop in -- no appointment necessary! We are excited to share a new tool that can help support your success at LMC! StudentLingo is a series of interactive on-demand workshops, action plans and valuable resources to assist students in achieving their academic, personal, and career goals. The Student Success and Support Program (3SP) is sponsoring 41
online workshops in the following areas:

  • Learning to Learn
  • Personal Management
  • Online Learning

Apply to EOPS!

The Extended Opportunity Programs & Services (EOPS) program began accepting applications for Fall 2016 on Monday, May 2.  EOPS is a state-funded student support service program established to promote the enrollment, retention, persistence, and success of low-income students and those from backgrounds underrepresented in higher education by offering services that are above, beyond and in addition to services available to all Los Medanos College students.

Financial Aid Updates
 
2016-2017 Student Financial Aid Status Updates 
During the month of May, the Office of Financial Aid will begin sending email notifications to students regarding the status of their 2016-2017 financial aid application. Check your InSite email for your status notification. Remember, checking your Missing Information Checklist on InSite and submitting all requested documents or information will help us get you through the financial aid process in a timely manner.

Satisfactory Academic Progress 
Did you know that in order to continue to receive financial aid in your next semester of attendance, you must meet minimum academic and progress requirements this semester?  The Office of Financial Aid will be checking to see if you met the minimum requirements during the spring 2016 semester. This is called the Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAP). Watch for emails to be sent after the end of the semester.  Read more about the CCCCD SAP Policy.

Board of Governors Fee Waiver Deadline

If you haven't applied for your Board of Governors Fee Waiver (BOGW) for 2015-2016 yet, now is the time. The deadline to apply is May 27, 2016. After that date, we will no longer be able to waive your fees.

The 2016-2017 BOGW Application is now available! Go to the Financial Aid Forms web page and select the online or paper application.

Please note: If you have already completed or are planning to complete a 2016-17 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you do not need to complete a separate BOGW application.
The Office of Financial Aid will determine your fee waiver eligibility based on your FAFSA.

Student Success Ceremony
There is still time to RSVP for the Student Success Ceremony! Although the deadline has passed to get your name in the printed program, you are more than welcome to bring your family and friends to celebrate your success if you are receiving a scholarship for the 2016-2017 academic year or transferring to a 4-year college or university in the fall.  The ceremony will be held on Friday, May 20 at 3:00 p.m. in the Recital Hall, MU-720. A reception will follow. RSVP

Thinking of transferring next spring?  Go to Transfer & Career Services now for information about transferring to UC Merced at the end of Fall 2016. The CSUs will release spring admission information beginning in June.

It's graduation time! Graduation regalia will be available for purchase in the bookstore starting Wednesday, May 11! Graduates can purchase cap, gown and tassel for $16.80 + tax.

Hug a pet in the Library!


The Los Medanos College Library is hosting the Pet Hug Pack for finals stress relief in the Library lobby on Wednesday, May 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Pet Hug Pack is sponsored by Tony La Russa's Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF). Students, faculty and staff can come by to pet therapy animals and get some much needed pre-finals stress relief!

S.T.E.L.A.R. Awards
The annual S.T.E.L.A.R. (Student Engagement Leadership Award Recognition) Awards Ceremony will take place on Friday, May 20 at 4:30 p.m. in the outdoor quad. This program is an opportunity to recognize outstanding LMC student leaders and clubs. You can nominate other students or even yourself! Student clubs and leaders will be acknowledged and awarded for their positive contribution to LMC through their execution of projects and programs, commitment to growth, and their embodiment of the spirit of leadership. S.T.E.L.A.R. recipients will each receive a framed award and have their name engraved on our perpetual plaques. Nominations are due to the Student Life Office by Monday, May 16. Nomination form

Advisor Appreciation Ceremony
The Advisor Appreciation Ceremony will take place on Tuesday, May 17 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Library Community Room (L109). LMC student clubs will honor their advisors for their dedication, support and involvement during the 2015-2016 academic year. If your club is interested in participating in this event, please contact Joel Nickelson-Shanks at [email protected] for more information. This year's theme is Midnight Masquerade. 

LMCAS Elections
Your vote is your voice! Student Government (LMCAS) elections will occur online the week of May 9. Polls will open on May 9 at 9:00 a.m. and close on May 11 at 3:00 p.m. Go to the LMCAS home page to vote at that time.

Student Ambassadors for Student Life
Becoming a Student Ambassador with the Student Life Office is a great opportunity to serve as a student leader at the college. It is preferred that students interested in becoming Student Life Ambassadors have been at LMC for more than a semester and have an understanding of and passion for providing leadership development opportunities that support students in becoming agents of social change.  Student Life Ambassadors will be required to commit to working a year-long schedule including trainings/meetings, regular office hours each week and additional hours for scheduled events/activities. The Brentwood Center provides a full array of student services, including Admissions & Records, Financial Aid, Counseling, Assessment, and many more. Schedules of Classes 
Summer and Fall class schedules can be purchased at the Brentwood Center; $1.00 for Summer, and $2.00 for Fall. The schedules can also be viewed online
 
Textbook Buy Backs
A textbook buy back will be held in Brentwood Center Room 13 during finals week on Tuesday through Thursday, May 24 - 26, from 11:00 - 7:00 p.m.  Don't miss out!  For additional Bookstore information, check out the Bookstore online at

Assessment and Education Plan Workshops

Parking Reminder
If you're planning to take a summer class at the Brentwood Center, please remember we share our parking lot with many other businesses, so finding a parking space can sometimes be difficult, especially at the beginning of the term.  See the Brentwood Center parking map for details about parking options.
