Are you receiving a scholarship for the 2016-2017 academic year? Or are you transferring to a 4-year college or university in the fall? If so, you are cordially invited to participate in and be honored at the Student Success Ceremony on Friday, May 20 at 3:00 p.m. in the LMC Recital Hall, MU-720. A reception will follow. Bring your family and celebrate with fellow students, faculty and staff! Sign up online by Thursday, May 5.

Come to Transfer Services on the upper level of the Student Services Center with your letter of acceptance, then RSVP online for the Student Success Ceremony. You must be present to win.

  • May 2 -- Deadline for Fall 2016 registration appointment appeals by students with more than 100 degree-applicable units or who are on second-semester probation or dismissal.
  • May 2 -- First day of priority registration for continuing students, by appointment

Graduation Application Status 
If you applied for Spring 2016 graduation, you will receive notification of your status and next steps to your Insite email by May 1.

2016 Graduation Ceremony

Are you graduating this spring? If so, the 2016 Graduation Ceremony will be your opportunity to celebrate your hard-earned achievement with your classmates.

This year's graduation ceremony will be held on Friday, May 27 at the football stadium. If you have applied for graduation and completed the requirements during the Summer 2015, Fall 2015 or Spring 2016 semester, you will be invited to attend the ceremony. See the Commencement Ceremony webpage for more information.


Check your priority registration date for Fall 2016
If you have not yet done so, be sure to check "My Priority Registration Appointment" on InSite/WebAdvisor to see when you are eligible to register for fall classes. Fall priority registration begins May 2. For the best selection of classes, it is recommended that you register on your priority registration appointment date.

Registration appointment appeals
Students who have more than 100 degree-applicable units or those on second semester probation or dismissal received a later registration date.  Students who qualify may file a Registration Appointment Appeal (see instructions on the form).

Beginning Fall 2016, students on second-semester probation will also lose their Board of Governors Fee Waiver (BOGW). T
he Registration Appointment Appeal must be completed to qualify for reinstatement of the BOGW for Fall 2016. 

Fall 2016 Registration Appointment Appeals are being accepted from now through May 2.  An explanation and an educational plan must be attached.   
Apply to EOPS!

The Extended Opportunity Programs & Services (EOPS) program will begin accepting applications for Fall 2016 on Monday, May 2.  EOPS is a state-funded student support service program established to promote the enrollment, retention, persistence, and success of low-income students and those from backgrounds underrepresented in higher education by offering services that are above, beyond and in addition to services available to all Los Medanos College students.

FINANCIAL AID & SCHOLARSHIPS
 
Board of Governors Fee Waiver Application
The 2016-2017 Board of Governor's Fee Waiver (BOGW) Application is now available!
Go to the Financial Aid Forms web page and select the online or paper application.

Please note: If you have already completed or are planning to complete a 2016-17 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you do not need to complete a separate BOGW application.
The Office of Financial Aid will determine your fee waiver eligibility based on your FAFSA.
 
Scholarship Opportunities
 
2016-2017 LMC Foundation Scholarships
Students who applied for an LMC Foundation Scholarship will be notified of their status via Insite email by the end of April. Scholarship recipients will be honored at the Student Success Ceremony on Friday, May 20 at 3:00 pm in the Recital Hall, MU-720. If you have been awarded a scholarship and would like to participate in the ceremony, RSVP here.
 
Open Scholarships
Sutter Delta Medical Center Auxiliary - Nursing Scholarship, $1,000

Open to students currently enrolled in college (or graduating high school seniors) who are pursuing a career in the medical field and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

 

East Contra Costa County Republican Women Federated (ECCRWF), $1,000

Open to female students enrolled for training at a technical school or returning to school after an absence to retrain job skills or obtain a degree or certificate. Must have GPA of 3.0 or higher. 

 

Nordson BUILDS Scholarship Program, $2,000 -$10,000

Applicants must be majoring in engineering, engineering technology, information technology, machining, manufacturing operations, supply chain management, marketing, accounting, finance, industrial management, information technology, or an engineering-related STEM discipline leading to a career in industry. Open to bachelor degree-seeking students with a 3.0 GPA or higher and students with a 2.7 GPA or higher who are seeking associate degrees and certificates. 

 
Kennedy King Scholarship Update
This year a total of twenty-five students within the Contra Costa Community College District were awarded a $10,000 Kennedy King Scholarship - eleven students from LMC, eleven from CCC and three from DVC. A total of $250,000 scholarships! This is an annual scholarship and will open again in the Fall 2016 semester for students who will be transferring in Fall 2017 or Spring 2018.

UC Merced Spring Transfer Admission Guarantees

UC Merced is the only UC campus that accepts spring semester Transfer Admission Guarantees (TAGs).  Applications will be accepted from May 1 through May 30. Come to Transfer & Career Services and we'll help you apply.

Writing for Math Workshop

Do you have a math class that requires writing?  The Center for Academic Support is presenting a workshop just for you! "Writing for Math - Discover Pie (π)" will be held on Wednesday, April 27 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Center for Academic Support, CO-304.  Master "bakers" Mike Norris, Rick Estrada and Caitlin Mitchell will answer all of your questions about how to write for your math class.
BART Transit Career Ladders Training Program

Does a career as a transit electrician or technician interest you? In order to meet the growing needs of the transit workforce, BART is partnering with Los Medanos College and three other East Bay colleges to develop streamlined pathways into transportation employment. The Transit Career Ladders Training Program (TCLT) will provide technical training for traditionally under-represented individuals including low-income students, women and veterans. The program will feature LMC's first "Industrial Technologies Summer Bridge", a 6-week program designed to prepare both transit and advanced manufacturing students for the rigors of technical instruction where math and English skills are key to success.

S.T.E.L.A.R. Awards
The annual S.T.E.L.A.R. (Student Engagement Leadership Award Recognition) Awards Ceremony will take place on Friday, May 20 at 4:30 p.m. in the outdoor quad. This program is an opportunity to recognize outstanding LMC student leaders and clubs. You can nominate other students or even yourself! Student clubs and leaders will be acknowledged and awarded for their positive contribution to LMC through their execution of projects and programs, commitment to growth, and their embodiment of the spirit of leadership. Recipients of the annual awards will receive a framed award and have their name engraved on our perpetual plaques. Nomination form

Advisor Appreciation Ceremony
The Advisor Appreciation Ceremony will take place on Tuesday, May 17 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Library Community Room (L109). LMC student clubs will honor their advisors for their dedication, support and involvement during the 2015-2016 academic year. Latina Leadership Network Conference

The Office of Student Life is now accepting applications for the 29th Annual Latina Leadership Network Conference. All fees will be paid by Student Life.

The Latina Leadership Network Conference is an annual conference geared towards Latinas in the California community college system -- students, educators, staff, administrators, and trustees. Their dedication brings together diverse individuals to promote higher education and the professional development of Latinas.

Academic Competition Winners
The 11th Annual LMC Academic Competition was held on Saturday, April 9.  Twenty teams competed for $7000 in scholarships.  Congratulations to the winners!

Transfer 101 Workshops
Transfer 101 workshops with counselor David Reyes are coming to the Brentwood Center on Wednesday, April 20, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and Tuesday, May 3, from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. in Room 9.  Learn how to start the transfer process at LMC and get guaranteed admission to a four-year college or university! No appointment is needed; just show up on one of the scheduled dates to take advantage of this valuable transfer information!  More information can be found on the Transfer Center website.
 
DSPS
Our Disabled Students Programs & Services program (DSPS) provides support services to students with disabilities to allow them to fully participate in and benefit from courses at the college.  Services and accommodations include, but are not limited to, priority registration, alternative testing, adaptive computer technology, sign language interpreters, textbooks recorded onto audio file and Braille.  Counseling appointments and accommodations are available at the Brentwood center. Tutoring Services 
Be prepared for mid-terms and finals by taking advantage of the free tutoring services offered at the Center for Academic Support, Room 13.  We offer drop-in peer tutoring in many subject areas, as well as one-on-one reading and writing support services offered by English faculty.  Take a look at the schedule of services posted outside the door to Room 13 or check us out on the Brentwood Center website. To schedule a one-on-one appointment for reading and writing services, just stop by the office or call (925) 513-1625.
