Only a month remains of Fall Semester and you are undoubtedly focused on final projects, papers and exams.  If you are wondering when your finals are, check out the online final exam schedule (but be sure to confirm the dates with your instructors, as well). This is also the time to plan for Spring 2015 classes and the Spring Class Schedule is now available online. If you haven't checked WebAdvisor for your Spring 2015 priority registration appointment date, now is the time to do so.

This is also the time to apply for scholarships, financial aid, EOPS and the Transfer Academy.  Check out the details below, along with news about some great events and important dates. 
Important Dates  
  • November 21 -- Last day to withdraw from classes with a "W"
  • November 24 -- Spring 2015 registration for continuing students begins. See WebAdvisor for your priority registration appointment date.
  • November 27-29 -- Thanksgiving Day holidays, college closed
  • December 11-17 -- Final Exams
  • December 23-January 2 -- Winter Recess, college closed

Graduation Updates

If you applied for Fall 2014 graduation, you should have received notification by email to your InSite account. If you have completed all graduation requirements, you will receive your diploma or certificate by February 15. If you have questions, please contact Admissions and Records at (925) 473-7500.  

 

If you plan to graduate in Spring 2015, you may apply once you have registered for spring classes. The deadline to apply for spring graduation is March 1. See your counselor to make sure you are on track.

 

Spring 2015 Priority Registration

Priority registration appointments begin on November 24. Check "My Priority Registration Appointment" on InSite/WebAdvisor for the earliest date you can register.  For the best selection of classes, register on your registration date! 

 

Priority Registration Requirements   

If you were new to LMC for Fall 2014 and did not complete orientation, assessment and a student educational plan, you did not receive a priority registration appointment for Spring 2015. If you have not completed these three items, however, you may do so during the Fall 2014 term and your registration date will change to priority in about 2 working days. See Steps for New Students

   

Registration Appointment Appeal 

Students who have over 100 degree applicable units or who are on second semester probation or dismissal received a later registration date. Students who qualify may file a Registration Appointment Appeal. See the instructions on the form for more information.

EOPS News



Extended Opportunity, Programs & Services (EOPS) is now accepting applications for the Spring 2015 Semester. EOPS is a state-funded student support program that offers special services to qualified students. EOPS students receive extra counseling services, calculator and textbook loans, priority registration, book vouchers and more.

Financial Aid News

It's not too late to apply for Financial Aid! 

Are you currently enrolled for the Fall 2014 semester and/or planning to enroll in the Spring 2015 semester? It's not too late to apply for financial aid. Go to http://fafsa.gov/ to complete the FAFSA.

 

Applied for financial aid, but unsure of your status?  

If you are currently enrolled for the Fall semester and completed the FAFSA, you may still be eligible for a Pell Grant. Check Insite for a an email about your financial aid status.You may also check your "Missing Information Letter" on InSite/WebAdvisor to see if there is information still needed to process your application. Contact the Office of Financial Aid if you have any questions at (925) 473-2575.

 

Pell Lifetime Eligibility Limit  

Did you know there is a time limit on how long you can receive the Pell Grant? It's called the "Pell Lifetime Eligibility Limit". Effective with the 2012-2013 award year, the maximum duration of a student's eligibility to receive a Federal Pell Grant is 12 full-time semesters (or equivalent). The calculation of the duration of a student's eligibility includes all years during which a student received Pell Grant funding. Once the 12 full-time semesters limit has been reached, the student is no longer eligible for Pell Grant funding. More information

Fall 2014 General Financial Aid Workshops

Paying for college can be a big challenge. That's why the Office of Financial Aid is here -- to help you take advantage of all the financial assistance resources available to you.  

 

The general financial aid workshop will provide you with information about all of the FREE Federal and State grants available to students pursuing higher education.  Our staff will also assist you to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on the Web. The Transfer Academy is now accepting applications for its Spring 2015 cohort. If you are eligible for English 100 or 221 and Math 34 or higher, and are planning to transfer to a 4-year college or university, this is a great opportunity to get the support you need to achieve that goal.   


 

The Transfer Academy provides a dynamic academic experience with strong support inside and outside of the classroom, like academic counseling, academic support, workshops, leadership development, and campus tours. The academy is a community of students, faculty, and staff working together to keep you on target to transfer as quickly and successfully as possible.

Microsoft Office Loadfest

Join Student Life on Tuesday December 2 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in L-109 for a Microsoft Loadfest. Microsoft is providing LMC students, faculty and staff with the ability to download Microsoft Office 2013 for FREE. Bring your laptop, notebook, tablet, or other mobile devices to the event.  Don't have a mobile device, come to the event and learn how to install Microsoft Office 2013 on your home computer. We will have pizza and refreshments.  For more information, contact the Student Life Office.

Tutoring & Reading/Writing Assistance

General peer tutoring is available in Brentwood Center Room 13 on a drop-in basis in a variety of subject areas. Drop-in tutoring hours 

 

Get help with your reading and/or writing assignments in any subject by scheduling a 30-minute one-on-one appointment with a faculty consultant.  Call the Brentwood Center at (925) 513-1625 to schedule an appointment. Reading and writing consultant schedule

 Transfer News   

  • Brandman University is tabling at the Brentwood Center monthly. Their next visit is Thursday, December 11 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the main hallway.
  • Appointments are still available for the CSU East Bay Rep's last visit for Fall 2014 on Thursday, December 18, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Transfer Counselor David Reyes will be at the Brentwood Center all day on Tuesday, November 18 to assist transfer students.  There will be a combination of individual appointments,  CSU  and UC application workshops, and express drop-in hours.  Call the Transfer Center at (925) 473-7444 for more information and to schedule an appointment.  Additional information can also be obtained by calling Sharen McLean at the Brentwood Center, (925) 473-6902.

 

CalWORKS Coming to Brentwood Center

CalWORKS is coming to the Brentwood Center soon!  CalWORKS students will be able attend CalWORKS appointments and workshops at the Brentwood Center.   For information and dates, call Catherine Fonseca in the CalWORKS office at (925) 473-7482.

 

DSPS 

Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS) counseling appointments, as well as classroom and testing accommodations are available at the Brentwood Center.  Please call the DSPS Office at (925) 473-7471 for more information or to schedule an appointment.

 

It's Scholarship Season!  

Two local Brentwood Scholarships are being offered this year, the Brentwood Rotary Scholarship and the LMC Brentwood Center $500 Scholarship. Check out the Scholarships website for a list of all available scholarship opportunities, applications and deadlines ASAP! 

 

Food Drive  

Please help local families in need this holiday season by participating in the LMC Brentwood Center Food Drive, hosted by the Food Bank of Contra Costa County.  The collection barrel is located in the Brentwood Center entryway.
