Greetings!

There sure is a lot going on at LMC in the next few weeks!  Not only are finals and graduation on the horizon, the calendar is filled with end-of-semester events - the Student Success Ceremony, S.T.E.L.A.R Awards, Earth Month activities, and more.  We also have a new student educational planning tool online to help you plan and enroll in your classes. Additionally, there are a number of very important dates and deadlines you'll want to be aware of.

 

Read on to learn more about what's happening at LMC.

 Important Dates   
  • April 25 -- Last day to drop full-semester class with a "W" on transcript
  • April 28 -- Fall 2014 priority registration for EOPS, DSPS, qualified veterans and foster youth
  • April 30 -- Special registration for DSPS notetakers, early graduation applicants and qualified athletes
  • May 1-11 -- Fall 2014 priority registration for continuing students in good standing with fewer than 100 units. Check WebAdvisor for appointment time.
  • May 15-21 -- Final Exams - see schedule
  • May 21 -- Last day of instruction and Graduation Ceremony
  • May 26 -- Memorial Day holiday, college closed

 2014 Graduation News

  

Apply to be the 2014 Graduation Student Speaker!

Did you complete graduation requirements in Summer 2013 or Fall 2013, or did you apply to graduate for Spring 2014?  If so, you are encouraged to apply to be the 2014 Commencement Student Speaker. Applications are due by April 25th. Requirements and application 

 

Notification of graduation status

If you applied to graduate in Spring 2014, you should have received an email to your InSite account notifying you of your status.  If your status is "approved" or "pending", you will receive an invitation to participate in the Commencement Ceremony around May 1. More information 

 

Commencement

The 2014 Commencement Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, May 21. Detailed information about the ceremony is posted on the Commencement web page. You will be invited to participate in the ceremony if: 

  • You completed your degrees and certificates in Summer 2013 or Fall 2013, or 
  • Your graduation application status is "approved" or "pending" for Spring 2014, or
  • You have submitted an Application to Walk in Ceremony with Coursework Remaining for Summer 2014.

The new educational planning tool is now live on WebAdvisor! Select Student Planning from the Academic Profile menu on InSite/WebAdvisor to track your progress, plan your courses, register for classes and make an appointment with a counselor -- all in one place.

Vote for student government LMCAS Elections

Your voice is your vote! All students are encouraged to participate in the upcoming student government elections. Voting will occur online from Monday, May 5 through Friday, May 9. Candidates will be announced Thursday, April 24 on the LMCAS home page

 

LMC Student Government Meetings
Los Medanos College Associated Students (LMCAS) is the official student government at LMC.  Its primary purpose is to advance the welfare of all students. Weekly meetings are held on Mondays from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in L-105.  

 

Inter-Club Council Meetings

ICC is the coordinating body for all clubs and organizations on campus. All clubs can be represented on ICC, which promotes engagement in community and college activities. Weekly meetings are held on Mondays from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. in L-106. If your club is a member of ICC, it is imperative that your ICC representative attend the meetings regularly.

 

Advisor Appreciation Ceremony
The Advisor Appreciation Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, April 30 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Library Community Room (L109). LMC student clubs will honor their advisors for their dedication, support and involvement during the 2013-2014 academic year. If your club is interested in participating in this event, please contact Jamila Stewart at [email protected] for more information.

S.T.E.L.A.R Nominations
Do you know a stellar student, club, faculty or staff member? If so, please consider nominating them for a S.T.E.L.A.R! The S.T.E.L.A.R. Ceremony (Student Engagement & Leadership Awards and Recognition) is LMC's annual celebration acknowledging the amazing leadership of our students and staff. The categories are: Outstanding Student Leader Award; Leader for Social Change Award; Outstanding Stelar Awards Student Club Award; and Advisor of the Year award. You can nominate other students or even yourself! Nomination Forms are due Monday, April 28. 

S.T.E.L.A.R. Celebration

The Office of Student Life is happy to announce its annual S.T.E.L.A.R. celebration! Join us after the Student Success Ceremony on Friday, May 9 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the Cafeteria Patio. Student clubs and leaders will be acknowledged and awarded for their positive contribution to LMC through the execution of projects and programs, commitment to growth and embodiment of the spirit of leadership.

Assessment Testing

Assessment testing is now available at Brentwood Center once per week, Wednesday afternoons or Friday mornings. Sign up online

  

Group Counseling by Major Sessions

Special 2-hour group counseling sessions will be held at the Brentwood Center through May on the following subjects: 

  • April 30 & May 21: Counselor Lydia Macy - Business, Computer Science, Management/Supervision, Biology, Chemistry, Math, Engineering
  • April 28: Counselor Phil Gottlieb - Administration of Justice, Anthropology, Psychology, Sociology, Art, Speech, Child Development, Journalism, Liberal Arts, Music, Sign Language, Spanish, Undecided Majors

Financial Aid Appointments

A representative of the Office of Financial Aid is in Brentwood every Thursday to meet with students. Call the office, (925) 439-1625, to schedule an appointment or ask about the schedule for drop-in.

 

Transfer Guarantee Workshop

Join us on April 30 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in Room 12 to get "The 411 on Transfer Guarantees". This workshop will be given in collaboration with UC Davis.

  

Tutoring Services

General content tutoring and reading/writing consultants are provided at the Brentwood Center by the Center for Academic Support.  Call the Brentwood Center at (925) 513-1625 for the tutoring schedule and/or to make an appointment with a reading/writing consultant.

  

The Brentwood Center Math Tutoring Lab is open daily to assist you with your math assignments. Math Lab hours

  

University Representatives

A Brandman University representative visits the Brentwood Center periodically to meet with students on a drop-in basis.  The CSU East Bay representative visits twice a month to meet with students by appointment.  Call the office at (925) 513-1625 to schedule an appointment.

  

Earth Month Events 

Earth Day Events

Celebrate Earth Day with us on Tuesday, April 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the outdoor quad. Visit environmental education tables and enjoy music, giveaways and entertainment to show your support for a sustainable LMC and community. There will also be a California native plant sale in the Nature Preserve. More information

Climate Change Presentation

The LMC Sustainability Committee is proud to bring to you a presentation from the Climate Reality Project on Thursday, April 24 from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Library Conference Room 109. This will be a chance to learn the latest facts about climate change and what you can do to make a difference.
