Greetings!

Welcome to the Fall 2013 semester!  This issue of the e-news provides information about opportunities to get more involved at LMC, upcoming activities, and important dates and deadlines you won't want to miss.
Important Dates  
  • August 16 -- Fall semester begins  
  • August 16-29 -- Late enrollment on a space-available basis
  • August 29 -- Last day to add full-term classes or drop full-term classes and receive a refund or credit
  • August 31 -- College closed, no Saturday classes   
  • September 2 -- Labor Day holiday, college closed  
  • September 6 -- Last day to drop full-semester classes if dropping in person without a "W" appearing on transcript      
  • September 8 -- Last day to drop full-semester classes if dropping on WebAdvisor without a "W" appearing on transcript
  • September 13 -- Last day to request Pass/No Pass (P/NP) on courses marked SC (student choice)
  • September 13 -- Last day to submit an early Spring 2014 graduation application to receive early registration appointment for Spring 2014

Admissions Reminders

Once classes begin, all students who wish to add a class must have a late add code for each class in which they want to enroll. If you receive a late add code from an instructor, use it immediately to enroll on WebAdvisor. You must be officially enrolled in the class by the last day to add; for full-term classes, this is August 29.

 

Diplomas for Summer 2013 graduates

Students who completed their academic requirements in spring 2013 should have received their diplomas in the mail by now. If you applied for Summer 2013 graduation, your diploma will be mailed to you in October. Please check WebAdvisor to make sure we have your correct mailing address.

 

Fall Parking Permits Available

Don't pay twice for parking! 

If you haven't purchased your Fall 2013 parking permit yet, now is the time. Parking permits are available online through InSite/WebAdvisor only. On August 26th, Police Services will begin issuing parking citations with a fine of $40 to vehicles parked on the Pittsburg campus without Fall 2013 semester permits.  

 

Your LMC permit is valid at all district campuses. Semester permits are $40 for autos and $25 for motorcycles and mopeds. Don't pay double for parking -- order your permit now!    

 

Scholarship News

Apply for scholarships!  

Applying for scholarships to support your education is easier than you think!  Visit our Scholarships website for a complete list of scholarship opportunities. You may also schedule an appointment to speak with the Scholarship Program Coordinator by calling (925) 439-2181, ext. 3130. 

 

The LMC Foundation Scholarships application will be available in November.  This application offers students the chance to apply for multiple scholarships with just one simple application.

 

New scholarships are being added all the time, so check the scholarship listings often!

Mustang Madness is coming! 

Mustang Madness, a week of festive activities to greet our new students and welcome continuing students back to LMC, will take place in the outdoor quad Friday, August 16 through Friday, August 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Mustangs, show your pride!

Join LMCAS Join the LMC Student Government!

Los Medanos College Associated Students (LMCAS) has positions open for student government senators and representatives.  Join LMC's student government and help plan fun events, provide valuable services to students, and most importantly, be the "voice" of your student body.  The fall application deadline is Monday, September 30, at 5:00 p.m. Weekly meetings are held on Mondays from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in L105. Application   

   

Join a club!

New to LMC or just want to get more involved? Los Medanos College offers a range of student clubs that provide recreation, entertainment and other opportunities for you to get involved with other students and the community. A list of active and inactive clubs is available on the LMC Student Club List web page.

  

Students are encouraged to organize and participate in clubs that reflect their interests. If you are interested in starting a club, complete the charter packet and attend a club leader orientation for more information. 
 

Student Club Orientation   

Interested in chartering a new club or re-chartering an existing club? Student club orientations are scheduled throughout the first few weeks of each semester.  Clubs chartering later in the semester will need to make an appointment for an orientation. The deadline to complete the club charter process is Friday, October 11. All club orientations will be held in Student Life Conference Room L106. Check the LMC Clubs & Organizations page for dates and times.

 

Inter-Club Council (ICC) meetings

Weekly meetings begin on Monday, August 26, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. in L106. ICC is the coordinating body for all clubs and organizations on campus. ICC promotes engagement in community and college activities.

Extended store hours (August 16-24)

Monday  - Thursday, 7:45 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Friday, 7:45 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Saturday (8/17 and 8/24 only) 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon

 

Book sales at the Brentwood Center (August 14-28)  

Monday - Thursday, 8:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

 

The Bookstore accepts cash, Visa and Mastercard only. Textbook rentals, refunds and exchanges are available only at the LMC Bookstore in Pittsburg.

 

The Fall 2013 refund deadline is August 23. Books must be in original condition and be presented with current semester receipt.

 

Transfer Center Fall Preview 

   

Planning to transfer to a 4-year college or university?  The LMC Transfer Center, located in CC2-225, provides many services, workshops and events for students thinking of transferring.  Below are some activities and events coming up this fall. Dates, times and other details will be available on the Transfer Center website in early September.     

 

University tours  

Are you interested in touring a college or university? The Transfer Center offers at least five tours every semester for free! That's right, all you have to do is stop by the Transfer Center to fill out a sign-up sheet for the trip(s) you are interested in and turn them in. All tours are FREE and most include lunch.  

 

Workshops  

This fall the Transfer Center will be offering workshops on:   

 

  • The UC/CSU and Private school application
  • TAG: TAG, you're in! What is a TAG and how to apply.   

 

Meet with a university representative  

Are you looking to meet with an admissions representative from CSU East Bay, Sacramento State, University of the Pacific or another school? LMC's Transfer Center offers one-on-one appointments with campus admissions representatives multiple times a week. Stop by the Transfer Center, CC2-225, beginning September 3rd to make an appointment.

 

Save the date!  

Transfer Day/College Night   

Representatives of colleges and universities from all over the nation will be coming to LMC to meet with students. Keep Monday, October 28th, reserved on your calendar. You won't want to miss the biggest transfer event of the year!
