Join the Martin Luther King Jr. Parade
Monday, January 18

Presbyterians and their friends in the northern part of PET, make plans NOW to join us in Knoxville's annual Martin Luther King Jr. Parade, Monday, January 18, 2016!  Meet either at First Presbyterian Church parking, 620 State St., by 9:15 a.m., and ride together in the vans of that congregation and of Fountain City Presbyterian Church, or else go directly to Tabernacle Baptist Church, 2137 MLK Jr. Ave. by 9:30. Just look for the "Presbyterians for Peace & Justice" sign. Step-off is at 10:00.  Children & youth and their leaders, on this school holiday this non-physically taxing parade is a GREAT way for you to attack pounds gained during the holidays, as well as to march in Christ's name for peace!

Retreat Cost:
$150  Monday - Wednesday

$195  Monday - Thursday

Join us at John Knox Center for three, four, or five days of Sewing on the River.  Come and sew to your heart's content. There are no interruptions except for meals and friendly conversations. Enjoy the camaraderie of sewers helping sewers. Go home with new ideas and new projects. All sewing and continental breakfasts take place in Abel Lodge and B Lodge with lunch and dinner by the cozy fire in our Dining Hall.

There will be a small shop for the things you forget or if you just want new fabric.

We will have a masseuse in the middle of the week with her massage chair to get the kinks out so we can keep on sewing!

Mission Project -  We will make 16x6 rectangular pillows for chemo patients.  Keep in mind for fabric that men use these also.  Fabric and stuffing are always needed and appreciated.

Association of Presbyterian Christian Educators Event
January 27-30 in Chicago

APCE logo Our If you'd like to be a part of the Annual Event at APCE this year, it's being held Jan. 27-30 in Chicago!  Our Presbytery's Support Mission Team has $1,500 to support educators to attend.  We're allocating those on a first come, first serve basis while funds last.   Priority is given to those who've never been before and currently enrolled students (of any level).  Ideally, we'd like to help more than one person.  Apply by sending email to [email protected] requesting the amount of funds needed and demonstrating you have sought out other possible funding, such as local church study leave.  Applications will be accepted November 30 through December 15.

2016 Presbyterian Youth Triennium - July 19-23

My name is Keli Shipley and I currently serve as the Youth & Young Adult Ministry Coordinator at First Presbyterian Church (Knoxville) as well as on the Youth Committee for the Presbytery of East Tennessee.

I wanted to let you all know that I am serving as the Triennium Registrar for the Presbytery of East Tennessee. Triennium is a conference hosted by the PCUSA and Cumberland Presbyterian Churches that is open to rising freshmen through graduated seniors!

Here is some information that you all may be wondering about...

When: Tuesday, July 19th through Saturday, July 23rd, 2016
Where: Purdue University
Cost: This is where the breakdown gets interesting! So, the total cost for a participant to attend is $505. We are asking for a total of $550 per participant and for it to be paid...
  • 1/3 Presbytery ($183.33)
  • 1/3 Home Church ($183.33)
  • 1/3 Individual ($185)
The Presbytery of East Tennessee has enough in their budget to fund 16 delegates (covering 1/3 of the total cost)  and 3 chaperones (covering 2/3 of the total cost). We will be distributing funding on a first come first serve basis, requiring a $50 deposit to reserve one's spot.  Please let me know by Friday, December 18th. I will need to send in an estimate number to Triennium headquarters. Also, adults (21 and older), if you are interested in serving as a chaperone, please let me know that by December as well, if not sooner.

If a church is unable to subsidize a portion of a participant's fee, please let me know and we can look into scholarship options for those individuals.

For further information, visit the Triennium website:  http://presbyterianyouthtriennium.org

Please do not hesitate to ask me any questions!

Peace be with you all,
Keli

Presbyterian Women News
Mowbray Presbyterian Church, Soddy Daisy

Charlotte Rhodes, Beth Roberts, Ianna Poe, Wanda Johnson & Beverly Jones
Another beautiful fall day on Mowbray Mountain and another fun-filled fall bazaar complete with a delicious and bountiful turkey dinner, homemade baked goods, craft and vintage items, creative gift baskets and so much more. The women of Mowbray Presbyterian Church are noted for their excellent cooking and the opportunity to enjoy it is eagerly anticipated by the whole community. This gathering provides food for the body and fellowship that nourishes the soul.

Exciting things are happening at Mowbray Presbyterian as they continue to be a vital, contributing resource to the community. This church family demonstrates so well that small numbers does not equal small service as they are open and willing to allow God to use them in His service - and they do so with great joy!

Roxie Lewis and
Charlotte Rhodes
PW of East Tennessee is thrilled that our PW Synod of Living Waters selected Charlotte Rhodes to represent us at the 2016 USA Mission Experience,
Out of Darkness...into the Light, that will be conducted in the San Francisco Bay Area Sept. 23 - 30. Charlotte was recognized for her willingness and commitment to learn and serve with many skills and enthusiasm; she is a great asset to her church, our presbytery and our synod!

Mowbray PW Moderator, Roxie Lewis, leads her PW with energy, delightful humor, inspiration and love. Roxie and Charlotte, PW Vice Moderator, are anxious to learn more about the work within our presbytery and to serve when opportunities are offered them or when they see needs that they can address. What a joy it is to discover those that truly want to serve!
