News from Clover Hill Presbyterian Church

Clover Hill Presbyterian Church
Clover Hill Presbyterian Church in Maryville has much to celebrate these days as they have called the Rev. Roy Scarbrough to serve as their pastor, effective January 1, 2015. This call required a 3/4 vote of approval by Presbytery as he had been serving as interim pastor at Clover Hill, and the vote to approve was unanimous! PW members have also benefited from the happy and energetic participation of Diane Scarbrough; Rev. Roy and Diane are double blessings for this church family!

The women at Clover Hill have an industrious quilting group of about fourteen members who enjoy a great fellowship as they work together each week to complete quilts for others that have pieced the tops; they also design, piece and quilt their own creations. Their signature quilt is the Smoky Mountains Wild Flower

and it takes about one year from start to finish to complete as every stitch is done by hand, and the finished product is absolutely beautiful! This quilt sells for $1,500 and these proceeds, as well as from the quilting for others, are used to support local missions and occasionally disaster assistance needs. Lovely note cards featuring pictures of the individual quilt blocks of the wild flowers are available for sale and they make a lovely and practical gift.

New PW officers were elected at their Christmas potluck luncheon and meeting held on December 11th. The officers were installed by Marilyn Suber, PWPET Moderator; the officers are Sara Harless, President; Diane Scarbrough, Vice President; and Laura Huffstettler and Norma Lynn, Co-Secretary/Treasurer. Judi Toole, outgoing President, was thanked for her great leadership and service.

Interim Pastor Training
Calvin Center, Atlanta GA
January 26-30, 2015

The Interim Pastor Training program is designed for Presbyterian Clergy (PCUSA) sensing a call to interim ministry and those inquiring about this ministry. Committee on Ministry members and presbytery staff members will also find this 5-day conference helpful.  This Presbyterian Interim Pastor Training course offers an excellent opportunity for leaders to hone skills such as how to say hello and goodbye in healthy ways, to help congregations heal and gain tools for understanding their congregation.

Training sessions at the conference include 30 hours of classroom instruction with plenty of time for personal attention.
