CLOSING THE GAP
Ann Owens Brunger, Vice Moderator, Finance & Stewardship Committee

The Finance and Stewardship Committee is happy to report that the projected 2014 Presbytery budget deficit is shrinking to a more manageable size.  Since the committee's report to Presbytery on February 22, additional pledges from congregations and individuals have been received.  Now expenses are projected to exceed income by $25,650 -- very different from the previous 6-digit shortfall.

The Finance & Stewardship Committee would like to thank all the individuals who have made personal pledges totaling $10,575 to support the Presbytery's mission in 2014.  If you have not yet made a commitment, pledges and contributions may be mailed to Presbytery of East Tennessee, attn: Gwen Pyle, P.O.Box 5436, Knoxville, TN 37928-0436

Serve Mission Team News
Mission Madness Infects East Tennessee!

The Serve Mission Team's event for the mission-minded - Mission Madness - attracted more than 90 participants on Sunday, March 29 at Farragut Presbyterian Church.  Those in attendance shared their passion for mission and learned about how churches in East Tennessee are or can be involved in mission efforts here and around the world.  The Serve Mission Team extends its heartfelt thanks to folks at Farragut for their warm hospitality and assistance, and to the many volunteers who served as workshop leaders and fulfilled the many tasks associated with such an event.

A highlight was the debut of a video created to highlight the many mission efforts supported by the Presbytery of East Tennessee.  Click this link to view the video:

The video is also available on DVD by request - contact Dana Hendrix at 865-688-5581 ext. 101 or dana@presbyteryeasttn.org

Mark your calendar now for a fun time.  For details check the website, or call Sunset Gap - 423-623-4313.

Update from Morgan Scott Project, Deer Lodge, TN

Ella Smith
The Serve Mission Team visited Morgan Scott on April 1, 2014. Mrs. Ella Smith, executive director, had lunch prepared and shared a lot of information about the activities and programs sponsored by MSP. It is evident that Morgan Scott is one of the most successful mission projects that the Presbytery sponsors and it deserves even more support than is being provided. In addition to assistance from the Presbytery and many of our churches, Morgan Scott receives support from other denominations, primarily the United Methodist Church and the United Church of Christ. The consistent leadership provided by Ella over the past seven years has enabled the project to make a highly significant impact toward lifting citizens out of poverty. Key to the success of Morgan Scott is the commitment to education. According to Ella, the three "Rs" in this area refer to "reading, writing, and the road out of town."
