WORD OF THE WEEK--IN-BETWEEN
We are milling about right now at one of the in-between places, not quite this season, not quite yet that. We could still find ourselves in May Gray and/or June Gloom but if the weekend is to be taken seriously (and that seems a good idea) the cooler days of spring may have fled before the heavy-booted bully that is summer in Southern California. Was it only a few days ago, the late afternoon thunderstorm that lasted and lasted over South Pasadena? Rain out of nowhere, bringing fires under control, and now this. It is an in-between time in other ways as well. Mother's Day, history, graduation and Father's Day in the future. Do we try to put away the winter clothes - again? Maybe this is the Lesser Doldrums, not the slow and sleepy days of August but possibly a bit light on oomph and inspiration. Two sources come immediately to mind: nature (look to the jacaranda, look to the produce at farmers' markets) and the ever-reliable Stampington publications. I dare anyone to look through, say, a minimum of three of their magazines and NOT find something they want to try. Same for the Cloth, Paper, Scissors issues. New techniques ("how did I not think of that?"), innovative color combinations, time-tested products used in fresh ways, something you've always wanted to try - such as calligraphy, self-taught. It need not be perfect, only fun. And at the shop, there are always new books pointing us in unfamiliar directions. No time for doldrums. Before we can sharpen our pencils, it will be August and won't we wish we'd made better use of May?

What is Shop Hop? It is an opportunity to visit almost 40 So Cal independent scrapbooking and paper arts shops from San Diego to Bakersfield, receive a 20% discount on your purchases, and check out all of the great stores.
Your registration fee will provide a passport (that you will have stamped at each store), the event pin - and the event premium-- an apron that can be decorated and embellish to your heart's content. Stay tuned for info about the most stores visited contest and other prizes.
