Interior Reflections

The New Neutral Palette

Looking to spring's fresh new array of colors, we've detected a lighter touch, hints, whispers, tints of color. Shifts to pastels without looking too 'candy', too 'Easter egg' which is an exciting color change.  We've begun to see a movement  away from gray to tints of blues, greens, lavenders and pinks. Pastels, softened Exciting new furniture collection and filtered, to lift the spirit but not shout too loud... colors that can make a room happy, flatter your possessions and your art. We call these the new neutrals.

This palette is a reaction to all the color cues that we have noticed popping up in the home furnishings industry, in textiles, carpets, wallpapers, tabletops and pottery, as well as color schemes that emerge in landscape design, the auto industry, fashion, and graphics.

cher As color rarely exists in isolation, color designers strive to create sensational new palettes that work together harmoniously. There is an art to sequencing color from one room to another. Hallways are the arteries of the house. Rooms radiate off the hallways. And a well thought out palette helps the transition because the colors flow seamlessly.

Good design is forever Personal expression is the best expression. You want to choose colors that are enduring, that resonate with you and make you feel comfortable at home. Interior Reflections is here to help with 32 years of color experience and expertise.  Call on us!

Great Services We Offer
Designing With Antiques
The trend today is to marry traditional and modern pieces to create your own personal sense of style.  Fabulous and functional. Sophisticated and always comfortable. Integrating antiques into your design plan is a great example of recycling and re-purposing pieces for the way you live today.

Citrus sofa There is an art to balancing modern clean lines with traditional timeless beauty.  Find common elements such as burled wood in contemporary and traditional pieces.  Modified cabriole legs on a modern console table look smashing with an antique chest with cabriole legs you may already have in your classic furniture repertoire.   Diamond tufting on a camelback sofa of yesteryear may not be comfortable today. However, reupholstering an inherited overstuffed chair with contrasting button tufting is.

We have done away with our Mother's "don't touch Blue plates that - don't sit on that" to "how can I use antiques for function as well as beauty?"   People tend to relegate antiques to a guest bedroom or a study. Bring them out into the light where you can use and enjoy them every day.

Set your dining room table with your grandmother's china, even if there is no dinner party planned at the moment.  Or take a mix of dinner and dessert plates and arrange them in an arch or circle above a buffet table.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Are your antiques inherited?
  • What stories could a piece tell?
  • What magical memories are associated with    your antique furnishings?
  • How does the piece speak to you?
  • Consider the future - what pieces do you want to pass down to your children?
  • Brush up on period styles to better mix your collections.

"This is our third home  and we didn't have a lot of money for decorating.  We are  'do it yourselfers' but some of our problems defied a solution that worked in real life.

One of our friends at work told us about Interior Reflections. We met and in less than two hours, we moved our family room furniture around, picked out a new wall color, brought in a rug from our dining room and re-arranged our art and photos.

We made a second appointment with Beth to bring accessories to fill in several places we felt needed help. It was like waving a magic wand to see everything come together.  It's the best investment we've ever made.  We'll definitely use her again and we recommend her services to anyone who needs a shot of creativity."
