Q. W e want to remodel our master bath and haven't used our whirlpool tub in 10 years. Will it hurt our resale value to take it out?
A. Great question. Increasingly we are recommending updating bath space by adding much needed storage and other amenities that fit how you live today. If you have a downstairs full bath available, you're fine to say goodbye to your whirlpool tub.
I f you prefer a shower to a bathtub, there's lots of design possibilities that can replace its footprint. Enlarging the shower and adding a corner seat and multiple shower heads can make a spa-like experience be yours.

Comfortable seating for two while dressing is a welcome addition. Use your former tub space to create more linen cabinet storage by configuring one or more vertical banks of drawers with a built in bench in the center as we did with this recent master bath remodel shown here.
Choose two or more kinds of lighting (indirect, incandescent and task, for instance) for the best all around balance. Make one of your incandescent sources a jeweled chandelier overhead.
If you choose to replace your outdated cultured marble vanity counters with granite or natural stone, this is the perfect time to raise the height at least an inch and a half for a more regal, proportioned look.
When this client originally contacted us, they were using the oversized tub mainly to dry their bathing suits after a backyard swim workout. Less than perfect circumstances prompted their dire call to us. We asked them to share their experience...
"The shower in our master bathroom started leaking and we were told by the plumber that almost everything would have to come out. The task of remodeling sounded huge and not much fun. We decided to ask Beth to formulate a design plan and were so glad we did! There were so many elements to consider like lighting, tile, plumbing | | Larger shower, 12 new drawers with cushioned seating and built-in device recharging station | fixtures, wallpaper and paint colors. The process would have been overwhelming without herguiding us through the selection process making great suggestions throughout. Her sense of color, design and creativity were amazing and our bathroom turned out beautifully! We love it and are so grateful for her help." Amy & Randy Thompson, Champions Forest |
