Each month we will feature two of our many financial supporters - approximately in the month in which we realize their support.
Four years ago, the Hayes Family Foundation funded Junior Achievement's expansion of our JA Girl$ initiative to the Beaches. Without this 3-year grant we would not have reached 523 girls and young women with our financial literacy, workforce preparation and entrepreneurship programs. We anticipate another 150 girls will be served by the grant's conclusion at the end of July 2014. While that program continues to grow, the Hayes Family Foundation awarded an additional 3-year grant for JA Boy$ to establish programs at the Beaches. Our JA Girl$ program has gained national and international acclaim. We are accomplishing this success because of the local support from interested funders such as the Hayes Family Foundation.
Beaver Street Fisheries' support of Junior Achievement started in the mid-1970's when their CFO, Jeff Edwards, participated in the JA Company Program. He later joined the JA Board of Directors, is the Immediate Past Chair, and was inducted in the JA Hall of Fame last year. Harry Frisch, founder of Beaver Street Fisheries, was the 2012 Baker Award recipient - the highest award given to an individual by Junior Achievement. Mr. Frisch understands free enterprise and appreciates the financial values Junior Achievement brings to young people in our community. Both Jeff and Harry have always been there when we needed something.
