Greetings!
As the foliage starts to turn and pumpkins begin appearing on front steps or in windows, we welcome the fall. This is a time of year we celebrate and thank our most loyal supporters at two recognition dinners.
At the Scholarship Dinner students had the opportunity to meet their Scholarship donors and donors were able to hear directly from their student recipients. They exchanged amazing stories on their respective paths to BUSM.
During Dean's Club Dinner leadership donors to the school were treated to a musical vignette previewing the newly launched Arts Lab at BUMC. Following up on the success of the collaboration between the College of Fine Arts and the Medical Campus, this new stage offers a permanent space to support and nurture artistic creativity for future generations of health care professionals.
Led by world-renowned pianist Moisès Fernández Via, medical students Henny Hong '18, Jane Lock '18, Kate Weber '18 and Olindi Wijesekera '18 accompanied him to provide a taste of this collaboration.
October also means first year medical students are well into their studies and already have a few exams under their belts.
Thanks to the generosity of alumni who contribute to the annual fund, we are able to provide them with nourishment on reading/study days and on the mornings of the exams. Referred to as Food for Thought and Bagels Before Exams, this initiative continues to be well recieved.
In a few weeks the first year medical students will receive their first stethoscopes, an annual rite of passage taking place during medical equipment distribution day. This year the class is slightly larger, so we are seeking a few more donors to support the program. You have an opportunity to sponsor one, two or as many as you like, beginning at $150 for each scope. Donors receive personal thank you notes from the students.
