Boston University
School of Medicine Alumni Newsletter
February 2014

Greetings!

"Winter is a time of promise because there is so little to do - or because you can now and then permit yourself the luxury of thinking so." -Stanley Crawford

That is a very nice thought!  But I can assure you that much is happening this snowy winter on our BUSM campus.

Louis Sullivan MED, BUSM alum, class of '58, former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, founding dean and first president of Morehouse School of Medicine, recently visited the campus and shared excerpts from his recently-published autobiography.

BU researchers studying chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) continue to receive important funding from the NIH and the National Football League for their work on the effects of repetitive head injury on football players.

Recognizing the importance of interprofessional collaboration, a joint MD/JD program will soon be launched.  Many of our faculty have been recognized in Boston magazine's Top Docs 2013.

The Instructional Building has received quite a makeover which we plan to showcase during Alumni Weekend. As part of Alumni Weekend, you will have an opportunity to hear from our esteemed colleague and fellow graduate Howard Bauchner '79, Editor-in-chief of Journal of American Medicine Association (JAMA).

Sadly, we bid farewell to two of our long time and most  highly regarded colleagues, both of whom were leaders in health care and medical education , representing decades of influence within our BUSM community.  Alumni, faculty and friends returned from all over to celebrate the lives of Ken Edelin and Joel Alpert.

Enjoy this issue of E-News and be on the lookout for future communications.
