Aloha and Reedville to benefit from Metro grant
A $400,000  Community Planning and Development Grant (CPDG) to fund the Aloha Town Center/Tualatin Valley (TV) Highway Transit-Oriented Development Plan was awarded to Washington County by the Metro Council on Thursday, Sept. 24.
CPDG grants are funded through the Metro Construction Excise Tax (CET). CPDG grants are used for planning efforts that help make land ready for development. Washington County's plan will refine land use and transportation concepts for the Aloha Town Center and adjacent portions of the TV Highway corridor.
The project will:
Grant activities will take place in Fiscal 2015-16 and Fiscal 2016-17.

Will Oregon be ready for the Megaquake?

Tune into KOPB TV (Channel 10) at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, for OPB's Unprepared: An Oregon Field Guide Special, to learn about the dangers of a megaquake and how the region can be better prepared. After about 18 months of research, Oregon Field Guide determined Oregon is dangerously behind other quake-prone regions. The documentary will be rebroadcast at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4. Comment on Top Safety Improvement Candidates

The public is invited to comment on the Top URMD Safety Improvement Candidates that are being considered for funding.

All comments submitted by Oct. 16 will be reviewed by the Urban Road Maintenance District Advisory Committee. Suggest names for two THPRD parks by Friday 

Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District (THPRD) Board of Directors is asking residents in the Cedar Mill area to propose names for two newly acquired parks in the Timberland development.

One site is at NW 118th Avenue and NW Stone Mountain Lane.  The one-acre park has a public plaza, splash pad, play equipment, and open lawn area. The second site is an 8.77-acre natural area at NW 116th Avenue and NW Cedar Falls Drive. The site has natural resources including hiking, wildlife viewing and other activities.

The deadline for submission is Friday, Oct. 2.  To submit names and learn more about the park sites, visit the THPRD News webpage. The board will consider proposed names at its Monday, Oct. 5, meeting.

Roadwork and road closures - be safe in work zones:

There are road maintenance and construction projects happening throughout the county. Be sure to check www.wc-roads.com for the most current roadwork information. All paving work is weather-dependent and schedules may be adjusted due to changes in the weather or for other unforeseen circumstances.

Thursday: Menlo Drive, 2nd Street to reopen at Farmington  

Menlo Drive and 2nd Street at Farmington Road are expected to reopen Thursday, Oct. 1.  The intersections were closed for installation of a new culvert under Farmington Road.  Farmington Road Project

Beaverton; District 1

Friday: Works starts on Kemmer Road and 175th Avenue   

Milling and paving work is expected to start Friday, Oct. 2, on Kemmer Road, between 170th Avenue and Mayberry Place, and on 175th Avenue, a half-mile north of Scholls Ferry Road to Kemmer Road.  Traffic will be flagged through the work zone from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays. Completion is expected by Oct. 9, subject to change.  Paving schedule

Groveland Drive realignment project complete

Groveland Drive has reopened to all traffic, following realignment and construction of a new two-lane roadway.  The project realigned Groveland Drive, east of Groveland Road, reconnecting it to Helvetia Road at Schaaf Road.  The project also included replacement of a culvert on Helvetia Road at Waible Creek, which was completed in August.   Groveland Drive Realignment  

CPO 8; District 4

Construction of a path on 209th Avenue began Monday

Construction of a pedestrian path on the east side of 209th Avenue, between Blanton and the railroad tracks south of TV Highway, started Monday, Sept. 28. Work is being performed between 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Friday. Traffic is flagged through the work zone from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Work may occur on Saturdays as needed. Travelers should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes. Completion is expected by Oct. 30, subject to change.   209th Avenue project

Glencoe Road to close for two days in October

Glencoe Road will be closed at the railroad crossing north of West Union Road for up to two days in mid- to late October, depending on weather, for repairs to the Portland & Western Railroad Co. crossing. The actual closure dates may not be known until as late as a week before the closure. For a schedule check www.wc-roads.com.

Taylor Street sidewalk construction underway

Construction of a new sidewalk on the south side of Taylor Street between 90th Avenue and Winwood Drive is expected to be completed by the end of November. This project is funded through the 2015 Gain Share program.

CPO 1; District 2

Construction on McDaniel and Cornell roads continues

Construction of pedestrian facilities on McDaniel Road and Cornell Road, both Urban Road Maintenance District Safety Improvement Projects, are expected to be completed Nov. 30. The McDaniel Road Project is adding a wider shoulder to the south side between Harding Court and Arnott Lane. The Cornell Road Project is adding a pedestrian facility on the north side of the roadway between 102nd and 97th avenues.  Travelers should expect delays or use alternate routes.

Alden Street closed for sidewalk improvements through Tuesday

Alden Street will be closed west of Oleson Road through Tuesday, Oct. 6, for street and sidewalk improvements. The work is part of Clean Water Services' Alden Water Quality Facility Retrofit Project.

CPO 3; District 3

Scoggins Valley Road closed through Oct. 12

Scoggins Valley Road, west of Tanner Creek Road, is closed to vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians through Monday, Oct. 12, for replacement of two culverts. NOTE: This information is provided as a courtesy only. Developers are required to hold Neighborhood Meetings prior to submitting certain land use applications. A developer may also choose to hold such a meeting voluntarily if it is not required by county code. These meetings are intended to serve as a forum for the developer, affected CPOs, and property owners within the required notification buffer (500 feet in urban areas; 1,000 feet in rural areas) to discuss the proposal prior to the developer submitting an application to the county.
