Brookwood Parkway widening project gets underway

Brookwood Parkway, between Meek and Shute roads, is being widened to three lanes in each direction. Construction started Monday (August 17) and will continue until late fall 2016. Additional improvements include new bicycle and pedestrian facilities on both sides of the roadway, storm drainage system upgrades, and improved traffic signals and street lighting.

Construction will be done during nighttime hours: 7 p.m.-5 a.m. Monday-Friday and 10 p.m.-8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. The speed limit in the work zone has been reduced to 45 mph for the safety of workers and travelers. Suggested alternate routes include 185th Avenue and Cornelius Pass Road. Tualatin-Sherwood Road closure begins Friday, August 21

Tualatin-Sherwood Road will be closed between Southwest Oregon Street and Southwest Gerda Lane for up to 72 hours, starting at about 7 p.m. Friday, August 21.

To ensure the safety both road and railroad travel, the old rails and underlying supports will be removed and replaced with materials meeting today's engineering standards. The new crossing is expected to remain serviceable for at least 20 years.

County staff began notifications of the closure in early June. Communities in Sherwood, Tualatin, Tigard, Newberg, and Dundee were notified so that community and civic events could be planned around the closure. Road crews are aware of the traffic volume and lack of convenient detours, and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible. Detour routes will be clearly identified.
