 PAS Enjoys the Monterey Symphony
PAS students from grades 5-8 joined an audience of 500 or more county students for a riveting classical performance hosted by the Monterey Symphony. The event was held on February 25 in Salinas' historic Sherwood Hall, a premiere local acoustic and architectural gem. PAS students, staff, and volunteers were captivated by the orchestra's interactive performance under the direction of conductor Daniel Wachs. This season, the Symphony whimsically presented "The Carnival of the Animals" composed during the Romantic era by French musician Camille Saint-Saens (1835-1921). They also feature animal costumed dancers from Dance Kids of Monterey. This is PAS' second attendance at a Monterey Symphony sponsored music appreciatrion event this academic year.

Parents Gear Up for the May 4 Spring Fling!

A group of 10 parents and I sat around a table with a plate of Mrs. Morrow's chocolate chip mint cookies while children played in a nearby room. Parents prepared, shared, laughed, ate, and enjoyed each other's company all while working hard to plan this year's May 4 Spring Fling Fundraiser. Always striving to improve, parents spent two hours coming up with ideas to make the event even bigger and better than ever. Raising over $3600 last year, this year the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) has increased their fundraising goal in order to increase their iPads in the Classroom fund.

According to the North American Division Home and School Handbook, one of the purposes of a PTA is to unite the home, school, and the church to provide education for the children. This is one of the driving goals in planning such a successful event like the Spring Fling Fundraiser each year. One of the few annual events on the Peninsula that bring all six of the Seventh-day Adventist churches together on the same campus with the school, community, alumni, and friends, the Spring Fling is a great opportunity for our community to fellowship with a common goal in mind: supporting the success of our students. It is hard work, but ALL of our churches participate by preparing food for the event, committing their time, and helping the PTA raise funds for their projects.

The PTA leaders really understand the needs of the school and do their best to make sure everyone from parents, teachers, and volunteers are involved and give input when planning events to raise awareness about these needs. We are so blessed to work with such a motivated group of parents who get it. Thank you, PTA.

We look forward to this event!

Sincerely,

Sarah Seaman
Principal
