"Man is so made that he can only find relaxation from one kind of labor by taking up another." - Anatole France, The Crime of Sylvestre Bonnard |
In these dog days of summer, when so many resort to sweet tea and back porch shade to keep c ool, the Hartsville Chamber is anything but relaxed. Rather, the Chamber is hard at work planning our popular and exciting fall events - Big Thursday Tailgate, The Women in Business Celebration, and The Community Golf Classic! With just a few short weeks between events, there is a lot of work to be done, and tragically few moments of quiet contemplation.
Of course, the Chamber is not the only team that is spending hot summer days planning cool autumn events; Coker, Florence-Darlington Tech, and all the primary and secondary schools in the area are buzzing with activity. Yes, educators do work during the summer, planning new programs, improving existing courses, and reading up on the latest advancements in science and technology - not exactly a summer vacation!
Others, too, are choosing to forgo the allure of the beach in favor of keeping noses to grindstones. Hartsville's businesses are constantly working to enhance customer experiences and generate local buzz. Several exciting ribbon cuttings and grand openings are slated for later this summer and fall.
In fact, looking around Hartsville, it does not seem that anybody is 'taking it easy'! Where did this perception of relaxed Southern summers come from, anyway? With so much going on, be sure to read the Chamber Connection regularly to stay informed about what is new and exciting in Hartsville!

Little Miss and Teen Miss SC State Pageant

Little Miss & Teen Miss South Carolina is one of South Carolina's oldest pageant systems for children and young adults. It was founded in 1971 by the late Linda Floyd in Sumter, South Carolina. Over $39,000 in scholarships were awarded at the 2013 state pageant, in addition to the beautiful crowns, scepters, trophies, monogrammed banners and other prizes. The 2014 state pageant will be held here in the Hartsville. The LMSC pageant promotes community service and academic excellence, as well as encouraging poise and positive self-esteem in our contestants. Our winners make many appearances throughout the year and we also showcase them in various parades across the state.
