Chamber Connection
"Let us continue to strive together for a more inclusive, democratic, and peaceful future for us all." - Fernando Cardoso
June 10, 2014

Hartsville works best when it works together; that is why this week's theme is inclusion. Inclusion can mean asking a neighbor to join you at church, giving directions to a new resident, or making sure every kid gets to bat in tee-ball. No matter what form it takes, inclusion is how we form the strong bonds of community that help Hartsvillians achieve great things together. The Greater Hartsville Chamber of Commerce is proud to present some wonderful happenings this week that really showcase how inclusive and welcoming Hartsville can be.

Children have a special desire for a sense of belonging and involvement. This is why the newly installed handicapable playground equipment at Byerly Park is such a windfall for the community. Children can use this specialized equipment to experience the joys and stimuli of playing in a traditional schoolyard playground.

Another form of joining together is when Hartsville votes. If you are reading this newsletter today, you likely have the opportunity to cast a vote in the statewide primary election, and shape the political landscape of our state. The Hartsville Chamber encourages all its members to vote if they are able. If you need more information about your voting district, visit scvotes.org.  Please also read The Hartsville Messenger's online article on the election; information on the individual candidates can be found online, so you can cast an informed vote.

This week's poll: The Chamber is working to bring all of Hartsville together through information and advocacy; what can you do to include somebody today? Click Here!

Hartsville Community Prevention Meeting
Child Safety

"A follow up meeting has been scheduled regarding Hartsville Community Prevention efforts in regards to Child Safety.  The meeting will take place June 20, 2014 at Hartsville City Hall Council Chambers.  I will bring snacks this time so please let me know if you will attend.

Our previous meeting began an important conversation on this issue and we have built a solid foundation on where we want to go.  Children's Trust will be leading us in developing a plan of action to address child safety through prevention in our community.  Please feel free to invite anyone or send a representative.  Having a diverse and well-represented group is important as the well-being and safety of our children is a community issue, not just the responsibility of a few organizations.

I am highly encouraged to see that our community is already acting in a grassroots effort on some of these issues.  If we can lend our support, perhaps we can make this bigger than just Hartsville.  Please invite anyone that you know to be working on these issues as there are many great ideas out there already.

Over time, it is easy for a community to forget the lessons of tragedy.  We cannot afford to forget.  We owe it to our children to persevere in this effortWe cannot just hope that things will get better; we must join hands and be proactive for the sake of this wonderful community!

Thank you all so much for your investment in making Hartsville and its surrounding areas a wonderful place to live!"
