The Hartsville Chamber would like to invite its readership to think about wellness this week as you take in all that Hartsville has to offer. Though wellness is a critical component of happiness and productivity, it is often neglected in favor of... happiness and productivity! Have you ever said 'I can finish this work if I skip lunch today'? How about 'Eating a whole thing of ice cream gives me joy'? These too-common expressions are easy to utter, and difficult to combat. However, studies show that a proper diet can increase feelings of happiness - despite what your brain tells you about eating 'a whole thing' of ice cream!
Physical exercise and mental activity are also vital parts of wellness. A quick jog, a crossword puzzle, or a nice stretch can help relieve stress and focus one's energy. When the mind and body have the right fuel, the right motivation, and are put to work, good things happen. Achieving and maintaining wellness is a challenge for many, but Hartsville's business and non-profit communities have a wide variety of ways to pursue wellness this summer.
- Hartsville Young Professionals and Coker College are teaming up to provide wellness activities all summer, starting with Kickball on June 3.
- The YMCA of the Upper Pee Dee is celebrating National Running Day with a 5k race on June 14.
- The Good Living Marketplace -always a champion of wellness- is hosting free yoga and fitness instruction June 14.
- The Wellness Marketplace has new hours to better serve Hartsville's needs.

Gum Branch Church Website
Gum Branch Church Facebook Page

Established in 1796, Gum Branch Church is the third oldest Baptist church in South Carolina. With a diverse and growing congregation, Gum Branch offers two services each Sunday; a Vintage service at 9:00am and Modern service at 11:00am.
"When the tide goes up, all boats go up," is the guiding sentiment of Pastor Stuart Pritchett, who has been with the Church for one year. Pastor Pritchett strives to guide his congregation to understand the needs in the community, strengthen partnerships and serve in a manner that will raise the standard of living for all beings. Community-focused partnerships in the secular and faith-based communities have led Gum Branch to create local, regional and international initiatives.
Members of the Gum Branch Church will travel to Brazil in July to participate in and support local Brazilian festivals and to build houses to replace the mud and thatch hut homes that are medically unsafe due to worm infestations. Hopefully, you had a chance to participate in the Night at the Grand Ole Opry and Race 2 Reach 5K events in May, which were part of the fundraising efforts to send the dedicated missionaries to serve in Brazil. Meet Pastor Pritchett and members of Gum Branch Church at the End Of Year AWANA Celebration.
Location: Piratesville Splash Pad, 700 Russel Rd. Date: Sunday, June 8 Time: 6:00--8:00pm
