Thanks to Capital One Bank for their Christmas tree donation to the Chamber. Also thanks to Joe Dean and Village Public Works, Village Recreation & Parks, M.C. Electric, and Jacqueline Hensley. Mayor Paul Pontieri lit the tree at Capital One Plaza following the Main Street Christmas Parade which, of course, featured Santa.

The Holidays are here, so get ready to shop locally this season!
We have a number of stores for unique and last minute gifts. Our Holiday Video Promotion is a great way to check out gift ideas and promotions from chamber members. From clothing and accessories to gift baskets and gift certificates, you do not have to drive far to shop for special presents for your friends and family. Many stores offer free gift wrapping and personal service with a smile, making for a pleasant shopping experience not always found in larger stores.
December 13th is the chamber's holiday networking event from 6-9 PM at The Emporium. Join us for hors d' oeuvres, drinks, and country music. Please remember to bring a new, unwrapped toy for the Brookhaven Town Toys for Kids Drive.
The Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce would like to announce a new committee, the Foundation Gala Committee, which will hold its first meeting in early January to begin brainstorming and planning for this exciting event to help raise money for charitable, cultural and community development projects. The Alive After Five® Committee will meet in January as well to start preparing for Patchogue's most popular summer event! The East End Façade Grant Committee, which helps provide financial assistance to property and business owners looking to restore or renovate building facades on Main Street west of Bay Avenue is seeking members. If you would like more information or would like to volunteer for these or any other committees we offer, please contact the office at 631-207-1000. And remember, volunteer opportunities are open to our members, their family and their employees or co-workers.
I would like to thank Patchogue's Waterfront Committee for their hard work on another successful Holiday Boat Parade on Patchogue River and thank you to those who participated and decorated the boats. What a beautiful sight to see coming up the river! Also, a big thank you to Janet Pickett from Patchogue Printing and Web Design and the Business Promotion Committee for hosting our November Networking event. It was a great evening of food, wine and laughs, just what everyone needed after Sandy.
I wish you and your families a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa and a VERY Happy New Year!
-Jacqueline Hensley

In the picture, Harry Janson II is at left with wife Amy and their children, Sarah and Harry III in the center.

Paul of Paul's Carpet, Was 82
|
A longtime Patchogue resident and former Patchogue Kiwanis Club member, Paul H. Goetz, died on Dec. 1, after a brief illness.
Born November 27, 1930 he spent his youth in Selden. He moved to Patchogue in 1955 to start Paul's Carpet, his rug cleaning business, in a converted duck barn, eventually expanding to an additional building for his new carpet showroom. He was known for his inventive promotions, including tent sales, midnight madness events, and a tasting room to occupy husbands as their wives shopped. In 1978 he turned his business over to his sons, Paul & Andrew, and moved to Brooksville Florida, and began a second career selling mobile homes in the Clover Leaf Farms community for Hedden Realty, just recently retiring altogether. He is survived by Kathleen, his wife of 62 years, his children, Theresa, Paul, and Andrew, 4 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. His youngest daughter, Kathleen, predeceased him in 1996. A memorial Mass and reception will be held at a later date.
