Sandy Hits Us Hard

Bay Village resident Anne Marie Buck took this picture on Tuesday, Oct. 30 and says the water seen here on South Ocean Ave. was higher than during last year's storm Irene. Rider and Grove Avenues and Park and Gilbert Streets were reported under 4 feet of water.

This was the scene Tuesday at the head of the river, just east of Harbor Crab.
Mascot Dock, which suffered heavy damage in Irene,
was heavily damaged again. Sandspit Marina was also damaged and is closed. Power was reported knocked out to about a third of village residents, less severe than in other areas. Some Main Street businesses lost power for an extended period. Others did not. Traffic lights on Main Street and Route 112 were out on Tuesday.
The Patchogue Fire Department responded to many calls during and after the storm. On Wednesday they responded promptly to a request from United Methodist Church Pastor Ernesto Sanchez to secure a tarp over a roof top hole from a blown off cupola.
By the end of the week, the big problem was gas. Police were controlling lines outside the Hess station on Rt. 112 on Friday morning as other area stations were emptied. Hess was also out a short time later.
New Officers Inducted At Annual Dinner

Our annual dinner at Mediterranean Manor featured the formal induction of (left to Right) President, Jacqueline Hensley (William J. O'Neill's), Vice President Dawn Turnbull (Bridgehampton Bank), Vice President Melissa Kuehnle (St. Joseph's College), Vice President Lou Commisso (Briarcliffe College), Secretary Kathleen Quinn (Irish Crossroads) and Treasurer Jason Volini, CPA.

The Holiday Boat Parade on the Patchogue River is scheduled for Sunday, November 18th and the 50th Annual Christmas Parade on Main Street will take place Saturday, November 24th from 6-8 PM. Two exciting events to get you into the spirit of the season.

Hurricane Sandy has created havoc for many residents and businesses in the Patchogue area along with our neighboring communities. Our hearts go out to those who have suffered from floods and fallen trees. Please do all you can to help your fellow citizens during this difficult time and I hope power is restored to those who are without soon. Keep warm and stay safe!
